Hm... ok this is some difficult stuff to do, i have a windows 98 system and a windows XP system, the router and cable modem are by the win 98 system because i don't want to by another 30 foot cat5 cord.

Ok i can't access the other computer (win 98) and i have files shared on that computer and this computer, i set it to share printer.

Also i tried to update my half-life to counter-strike and it said that my internet connection was invalid...?

How can my internet connection be invalid, i'm on the internet right now with my win XP right now?

Would it be better to have the Win Xp system be the host instead of the Win. 98 system, i already set it up as the 98 being the host, if it's better to have the XP system host, is it hard to change the setup?

OK update on this situation...

I found how to get access to the Win. 98 system, i guess since it was acting as a server, i can't have a firewall in it, so it prevented me from accessing it, but now it's all good, i got it fixed right up.

But, i found how to access the routers internet explorer page, but i don't know how to make it so my HL updater can access the internet, i'm guessing it's having a hard time finding the ip addy or something? Because when i try to update HL it says "trying to veryify internet connection" but it can't find it?

I opened port 27015 on the router over the internet explorer page, but now i'm really confused on why it's not letting my HL updater to access the internet?

Have you tried setting the machine with HL as the "DMZ host" ? (DMZ means that all ports are forwarded to that machine. )

You should also set that machine to a static IP address (don't let it get one from the router's dhcp server.) You would do this in the Windows Network control panel. Punch in the same DNS info and subnet mask that you are currently using (run WINIPCFG beforehand and choose More Details to see this in Win98.)

The updater may use addtional ports (?)

Yah i went through that DMZ and MAC address with the linksys technical support line, they got me all set up. But my Half-life still didn't work, so i reinstalled everything to do with half-life, and bingo it worked.
