I'm trying to network 2 computers so that I can have a shared internet connection...

The computer I'm using has Dual LAN, and is running windows XP. I would like to have another computer hooked up to one LAN, and my cable modem hooked up to the other LAN. The computer I would like to hook up to this computer is running windows 2000 pro.

I've tried networking wizards but they dont work,
and I'm not sure if I should have my cable modem hooked up to my 3Com 3C920B-EMB, or my 1394 Net Adapter.

The motherboard I'm using is the ASUS A7N8X DELUXE.

Can someone please help me? I'm having trouble with the software aspect.

OK... you can do that. An easier way is to get a simple cable/dsl router but this can work too.

First, your 1394 adapter is actually a firewire port. Windows lists it as a network adapter since you can use it for that. Is that what you are doing? Or do you have two network cards in your computer?

Does your cable modem support a firewire connection? If so I guess you could use it. If you want to use firewire to connect your two PCs, then your other PC needs to have a firewire port as well.

Anyway your overall physical setup is correct.

(I'll call your XP machine "Computer A" and your Windows 2000 machine "Computer B")

You need to run a "crossover" type cable between computer A and computer B. A regular straight through cable won't work. If you were using a hub/switch (such as the one built into a router) then you would use straight-through cable to connect to that.

Then make sure you enable Internet Connection Sharing on the computer with two network cards. Go into Network Connections and select the properties for the connection to your cable modem. In those properties there is an option to "share this connection." You can also enable the XP Internet Connection Firewall on that connection, if you want but disable it if you start having problems with games and things like that.

Definetely make sure the firewall (or any firewall) is not enabled on Computer B, or on the local network connection on Computer A.

No configuration should be needed on Computer B, just set the tcp/ip settings to "automatically receive an address" (which is the default.) If you run the Internet connection wizard on Computer B, just say you connect through a LAN.

Still having trouble? Go to each computer and go to Start---> Run. Type CMD to go to a command prompt. Then type IPCONFIG and post here with the IP addresses it gives you. You can take out the last 3 digits if you are concerned about privacy. Do this for both computers.

Computer A should have two different IPs (one for each connection) so post them both if you see two.

I went into my BIOS and found a setting that allowed me to use my 1394 as a LAN instead of firewire. My computers are now happily networked together.

by the way, my computer has 2 built in LAN adapters. They aren't cards :D

    It's actually remarkably easy to make mayonnaise though. Fun fact, it USED to kind of be a French mother sauce. I believe that Careme considered it one, it may have been aioli but that has also built a different meaning than it used to. An aioli is just mayonnaise I mixed with other shit typically, I didn't start it don't come at me

    Depending on how you pour the oil the consistency can vary wildly, but that's true for most emulsions. I can only make about two quarts at a time with my robo coup, and if I have to make several in series because I forgot to order it becomes really obvious even when I do it. We have to wait and mix them all together to make sure we have the same thing.

    Hollandaise is also kind of like that, emulsions require a very steady hand to do exactly the same every time.

    Luckily I live in an age with electricity so it's way fucking faster, but when I was just a boy trying to find my place I had some hardcore chefs that made use do things like that by hand. It is WAY easier to get right by hand because you control it and can feel it, but it takes soooooo much longer. And on the scale a modern kitchen requires... I serve 400-500 guests on average per day right now, if I had 100 then we could do things way better

We have about 100 days of summer, and if that summer doesn't make us what it will, then I can't operate the other most of the year with my staff. The owner is talking about closing two days a week to cut down on labor, I told him he should cut down on vacations and it did not go great. I do think I won though, I have to keep my fucking core staff and they have to be gainfully employed

    I did do a rare thing for me and hire a girl last month without warning. Everyone was made at me because I started her at like 21, but she worked with me before and I was like don't care. She made 19 at her old job and I wanted her to come work with me, she is the best

    I'm going to get her a raise at the end of the summer. She wants to go to school again, but I want her to still work with me so.... she kind of can just tell me what the price is. I can go to 25 if she keeps up. I need to get her onto line more, that's what she wants, but I need her where she is and it's not fair that she doesn't get the little bit of raise that comes with it. She can do it no problem, I've worked with her there.
