New Hosted Mapper

Just our of ceriousity, can I ask how they got this, like what exactly did they do :S?

I suspect it might have something to do with that stickied thread at the top that says hosted map thread. Probably reply to it and get it hosted there.

Broken, They get there own little sections because they have kick ass maps that will change bnet forever.

Ok, this is my opinion of how this Hosted Mapper works:

All three of us are Special Members. I think it's obvious that you want to know a person a bit before making them the mod of their own forum, so I doubt you can become a Hosted Mapper without being a Special Member first.

Conan, me, and 56k (in that order) are the three top ranked Special Members, in reputation. I don't know if that really has anything to do with it, but I bet it helps.

Take a look at the maps being hosted: Mario, AWA, and NAoW. These are 3 of the most popular and longest going maps on Thehelper.net, so I think that has a HUGE part of it. Also, we've been sticking to this maps very well, so I think we can be trusted with forums for our projects. Don't forget, these forums aren't just for NAoW, AWA and Mario, but for US and OUR project(S).

So please, just leave it at that. TH and the other Admins and Mods have their reasons for what they do, I learned that the hard way ;)

Pft. :D

I think it's just the reason for the maps sticking very well, not really having to do with Reputation or Special Membership. Really, if you stop and think, you'll notice you will probably become a Special Member if you've been creating a good map while maintaining a helpful personality or just the latter.

But questions don't need to be answered any more. I THINK Broken has access to working on one of his map projects or something like that.

Sorry, Rinpun, but I have to disagree on just ONE point:

I think it almost HAS to do with Special Membership...After all, if someone is not qualified for even Special Membership, like say they're sarcastic, or tend to flame people, would you put that person in charge of a forum? Hosted Mappers are basically MODS of their forums. I know I wouldn't go near a forum modded by someone like Mr. Seyoko (if you remember him).

But as far as Rep, you're probably right, but remember: Rep and post count (and if those posts help people) determine if you become a Special. So, in the long run, I believe it DOES effect your chances.

But these are:

Just my thoughts...

That's what I said :D

I think you'll only get a forum of your own if you're making a good map WHILE maintaining a good personality.

As far as I know, I think the Hosted Mapper forum is just for the Special Members, but they're not exactly because you're a special member, but rather because you have a map and you're a helpful dude so you should have your own spot :D

I can't exactly describe my point, but I think we're currently smacking heads attempting to realize that our thoughts are the same on that "disagreement".

P.S. Are you sure with rep? I don't recall having that much when I became a Special Member. Mainly because most of the people I have helped are quite ungrateful and have gone missing. I do enjoy the fact I'm grabbing a lot more rep now than ever before, perhaps because the admins have somewhat looked at my case aside the fact I've been helping people who have joined more and more :D

Let's just sort of smile and nod at each other, shall we? ;)

By the way, Rinpun, please visit and register with BAM forums (the links in my signature) because I enjoy arguing with you :D I could use the fun ;)

Hahaha, I will try. I have to mention it to Dad though, he runs the server proxy. I don't know why he has one up, because he'll let me put any website on the thing that isn't related with pr0n (I don't know why I "censor it", maybe because I have a weird feeling there's an eight year old hundreds of miles away from me watching the topic? :P), which was my current status before the proxy, viewing everything but that :D

How often does the Trending Content box refresh?
  • The Helper The Helper:
Also, in the last template there was a seperation between sticky threads and regular threads in the forum
  • Ghan Ghan:
Not sure. It's probably part of a cron job.
  • The Helper The Helper:
Hey Ghan, whatever cron job its part of its not running its been the same for days. If it does not work can we remove it?
  • The Helper The Helper:
    LOL! A tweak job!
  • The Helper The Helper:
this is the fix I get from that yeah this is hard to control. disabling bots is pretty much necessary as ai and other bots would push really old threads to the top. reduce weight of view count. disable guest view tracking if you really want to push active threads to the top. a bit of tinkering for a few days with the weights and other settings should get you a decent trending widget box.
  • Ghan Ghan:
I changed the settings a bit.
  • Ghan Ghan:
Narrowed it to 7 days for the half-life and set views to 0 weight.
  • The Helper The Helper:
I dont think Trending would work for this forum it would be better to just have the last 5 posts from anywhere
  • Ghan Ghan:
Probably will have to give it some time to update.
  • Ghan Ghan:
I'm guessing it is not retroactive.
  • Ghan Ghan:
Next on the punch list: Update the server to Ubuntu 24.04.
  • The Helper The Helper:
Mad Lads is new I see it displays original post date
  • The Helper The Helper:
as long as it changes it is good - it is good now it updated and its new stuff
  • The Helper The Helper:
One thing I have noticed and I dont know if it is by design but like 1 out of 3 times I come to the site the Anubis screen just hangs open, if I refresh it will go away but sometimes it hangs
  • Ghan Ghan:
    I've seen that as well.
  • The Helper The Helper:
Wow - the change in the stats are major. I kind of knew it was all bots but wow, to see the effect. Why the social media sites cant do something like this I have no idea.
  • Ghan Ghan:
Probably inflates their numbers so they look better to advertisers.
  • The Helper The Helper:
Yeah google does not filter those bots. I remember when Apex was doing Google ads I saw the same IPs in there as I was seeing here - google is totally tracking all those bots as traffic and most google traffic, at least ours, was all bots
  • The Helper The Helper:
oh wow, i bet i can post x links now and do the webp pics now giggity
  • The Helper The Helper:
ahh anubis blocks anyone that has javascript turned off
  • The Helper The Helper:
Robot: HTTP client library - i love the new robot :)
