No DOS sound! Help!

I have had this roblem for quite a while now.
I can't seem to get DOS sound to work with this sound card.
If I turn on SB16 Emulation, whenever I run a DOS game, the system completely reboots, as if I pressed the reset button. If I turn it off, I can play DOS games, but there is no sound :(

I'm on a Win98SE 4.10 (Build 2222 A )/DOS7.1 OS and here are the hardware specs...
512 pc133 DRAM
AMD Athalon 1.2ghz
Award BIOS 04/26/01
PCI,ISA,USB,AGP Busses
1 Paralell, 3 Serial ports

I believe that's all I need to list that would pertain to this problem

I was thinking as a possible solution, could I use both the card and the onboard sound at the same time? Using the Onboard card as a DOS soundcard.
 
is the sound card set in the autoexec.bat ??
ie the crap on port 220 irq 5 etc etc
geez i used to know this stuff from heart .

he he I have same video card and same cd player but mine is 48 x they've never giving you problems have they?
 
Yes, I have my autoexec.bat set with the Set blaster variable.
The voodoo card has not given me any problems, but the CDrom is slow and unrelyable. I install most games from the CDRW because it's more stable in data transfer and it doesn't sound like a 69 Ford Pickup when it runs.
 
sorry to alter the topic. yes my cd rom too started off really nice in fact it sounded like a vacum clearner. But I didn't know if it was going any slower or not. It is making noises i'm not used too now soo I'm just guessing........... so I guess I should use my cd 32 x burner for games now. Thanks Mr...
 
Best workaround I have found to run dos games .. is to create a dos boot disk that has the atapi drivers, sound drivers and vesa driver on it .. then when I wanted to run a dos game.. I just booted from floppy straight into dos.. and didnt use windows at all.
 
I don't know, but ona humorously simliar note, my dad's soundblaster 128 crad isn't compatible with the soundblaster functions of windows or DOS.
