Here is my problem, Every modem I install says there is no dial tone, but when I pick up the phone that's plugged into the "phone" port of the modem, I hear it. I f I turn off "wait for a dialtone before dialing" The modem speaker playes the dailing, but I don't hear it on the phone.
I just reciently reformatted my computer, here is the stuff
Windows XP Pro.
256 DDR
2.2 AMD XP
nVidia GForce 2 (AGP)
Modem (any modem I install prduces the same effect)
Soundblaster Live! gamer 5.1
This problem occured when I installed the cable (serial) to link up with the UPS. I tried uninstalling the program and the cable, but still no good. I had some other problems so I reformatted. The problem still occurs. I've tried using a different cable, unplugging the phone, Ect. The phoneline works, the other computer dials on the same port via splitter without problems. I've tried hooking the modem straight to the line without the splitter on a brand new cable and no effect. I'm thinking it might have somthing to do with the COM settings, but I can't get any change from changing the com settings or re-arrangeing the expansion card order.
