I just installed XP, and my soundcard won't work. It has generic XP drivers, but nothing seems to work. The card is a Yamaha OPL Sax. I tried testing it in dxdiag, and no sounds work, Except for the Yamaha FM Synthesizer emulation under music tab. Anyone else with the same problem (preferably solved) please tell me how to make it work properly!!

If you go about half-way down this page:

http://www.yamaha.com/lsi/support/downloads.htm

You should see a WDM driver file. It says it's included on the WinXP CD, but it could be a problem with the included drivers.

At any rate, you should also make sure you have the updates for WinXP installed (go to windows update). You might also have some luck swapping the card through a few PCI slots - it could be you have an IRQ problem.

Yes, I downloaded those, but they don't do the trick for me. Also, I downloaded all updates for XP, nothing happened. So, it might be the third option, IRQ conflicts.

Now, I've changed back to 98SE. Unfortunately, something weird happened. I had made NTFS partitions with the XP installation program. When I booted the computer with the 98 boot disc, and typed format c: (Yes, I really did, I checked it at least twice) it went on and formatted d:. This was probably because fdisk had some problems with the NTFS partition, which was to be my primary DOS.

Formatting D was not what I wanted at all. I lost all my important documents for work and school, also about 10 gigs of other fun stuff that I'd really love to have back. I tried some lost & found programs, but none of them can restore everything. Well, well. Good thing I have a nice connection so that I can restore most of it.

by default, if windows comes across a partition type it doesn't know it doesn't assign a drive letter to it. The Windows 98 bootdisk (and even operating system) does not read NTFS, so that's why that happened. Fdisk'ing may also get complicated as the fdisk program doesn't like anything non-FAT (sometimes you can get away with deleting it as a non-dos partition, but rarely), you might have to use your XP cd to remove the partition. Linux partitions are really hated by fdisk, a lot of times you'll get stuck in an infinite loop "You cannot delete an extended dos partition while logical drives exist" "There are no logical drives" repeat as necessary :)

Yea, I noticed that :(

Now, I've revived most of my most important work, but I still miss a lot of it, and some files were damaged, and isn't really intact.

Well, well, you learn a lot from making mistakes. I'll try installing XP again this weekend. Maybe there'll be a followup on this thread then.

this is the fix I get from that yeah this is hard to control. disabling bots is pretty much necessary as ai and other bots would push really old threads to the top. reduce weight of view count. disable guest view tracking if you really want to push active threads to the top. a bit of tinkering for a few days with the weights and other settings should get you a decent trending widget box.
  • Ghan Ghan:
I changed the settings a bit.
  • Ghan Ghan:
Narrowed it to 7 days for the half-life and set views to 0 weight.
  • The Helper The Helper:
I dont think Trending would work for this forum it would be better to just have the last 5 posts from anywhere
  • Ghan Ghan:
Probably will have to give it some time to update.
  • Ghan Ghan:
I'm guessing it is not retroactive.

One thing I have noticed and I dont know if it is by design but like 1 out of 3 times I come to the site the Anubis screen just hangs open, if I refresh it will go away but sometimes it hangs
  • Ghan Ghan:
    I've seen that as well.
  • The Helper The Helper:
Wow - the change in the stats are major. I kind of knew it was all bots but wow, to see the effect. Why the social media sites cant do something like this I have no idea.
  • Ghan Ghan:
Probably inflates their numbers so they look better to advertisers.
  • The Helper The Helper:
Yeah google does not filter those bots. I remember when Apex was doing Google ads I saw the same IPs in there as I was seeing here - google is totally tracking all those bots as traffic and most google traffic, at least ours, was all bots

Weekend went by too fast. Next weekend I am going to try to do a nature thing - buddy of mine lives by the Colorado river and has some kayaks and invited me to do some kayaking from a place he knows to get on the river.
  • Ghan Ghan:
    That sounds like an adventure.
