Wow, its been a ride. Over 27 years of this site from a personal homepage, to a Blizzard Tech Support site, a World Editor Help Site, and then a community of Helpers from then until now. It is no secret that over the years the site has become less frequented but besides that fact my time on the site has increased exponentially. Basically, most of the content on the site that has not been in the NUON forums has basically been me posting random stuff that I found interesting on the Internet. The problem is for many of those years I was a lost soul floating around the darkside of the Internet, skimming the edges and really just not having any kind of focus. That has changed. I am no longer a lost soul. I am now on Team Jesus and unfortunately my path moving forward does not include having this site competing for my time. I have taken a 180 degree turn from where this site was focused and now I just cannot follow the path that I am on with this too. Anyway, I realize that many of you might have parts of the site that you are interested in and there is a bunch here that is worth saving, but alot that unfortunately is not. The site will be archived. The content will be available for people if they want it. It just will not be advertised or out there in any forum that bots or search engines will get it.

My friends on the site I am going to miss all of you and if anyone wants to keep in touch my email is [email protected]. I do not have a hard date for the site closure except to say it will likely be sometime before the end of the month. If its up after that it will be because it is in the process of getting backed up or we are waiting to move some parts over to different sites. The related Warcraft and any other hosted sites like the NUON forum and the NUON-Dome will likely continue just outside of this site.

I want to thank everyone that has supported the site and contributed and helped over the years. Your efforts are appreciated and will not be forgotten! Some might say this is the end of an era. I like to think it more of a beginning. At least for me. I truly hope this is true to any that read this final part - I hope that all of you have your Best Life and have Success and Happiness in all the things you do! I will miss everyone and I appreciate you, I really do!

This site was my childhood (or most of whats worth remembering about it), thanks for hosting that community. Hope you find what you are looking for in your personal journey.

But, you gotta do what is best for you, and with that I bid you best of luck on your future endeavors.
 
Can't believe it's been this long - I made this account when I was ~13 years old and am now an old fart at 35 haha. This community kick-started a lifelong passion for software development which I'm incredibly lucky to have made a career out of because of it.

So long and thanks for all the fish TheHelper - the community you helped facilitate and grow has impacted a lot of people in profound ways, and quite a few in their formative years. It was a pleasure to be a part of this community in those early years.

Oh wow, how did I miss this announcement? It has been a pleasure to keep posting news, but lately, real life has taken much of my time away.

Thank you again TheHelper forums, for helping me kickstart my passion as a game developer interested in mapmaking to computer science undergraduate, to a game design graduate, and now a full-fledged software engineer.
 
God bless guys, I've been a regular since around 20 years starting with learning wc3 map editor when I was about 12 years old and trying to understand what a mem leak was.

I'm now a technical expert and executive at a major automotive ecu design and production company and I credit this site to building the foundation of my technical interest and knowledge leasing over time to a direct shaping of my career and ability to support my family.

Wow. This probably sounds weird but I woke up in the middle of the night and had this sudden feeling that I had to log in to TH even though it’s been years since last time, to make sure I grab some stuff from my DMs. Didn’t expect to see this.

Mirroring what others have said, this site was a huge part of my teenage years. I still remember when my friend showed this site to me and I was just hooked. Such a great community, plus building WC3 (and later SC2) maps was just so much fun. I just spent some time digging through my DMs, posts etc, and there’s so much nostalgia there.

Like others here, I’m now in my 30s and life has taken on a different shape in terms of family, spare time and priorities. I’m (unsurprisingly) a software developer and I’m still working on games (slowly) on the side. I’ve been working on a standalone version of my SC2 mod for ~5 years now.

I’m so thankful for this site and especially the people on it! What a ride! Thank you @The Helper !
 
I just got finished reading the New Testament. I was raised Catholic but went away from that in my teenage years but I had some teaching. I also have read the bible throughout my life. However, I just really read the New Testament and am going to start the Old Testament probably tonight!
 
So this thread is closed because I am not closing the site. It is going to transition into something else for sure but I think it is going to turn into something a little bigger than what it currently is and to give some direction to it, because it is not really going anywhere or have a real purpose now. So, keep checking back and see where we take this.

Nice. I can keep posting news. I still need to finish up my personal business related to probate stuffs.

    I'd rather personally just own a backup of the Nuon data than see it go to AtariAge honestly. If it gets enshittified as per usual, or if some of the "regular" Jaguar folks get there, it's not gonna be fun

    And we JUST got a new warcraft 3 campaign after 20 years! Bummer lol. Thanks for building and maintaining such an awesome community over the years TheHelper! Forums like these are definitely a relic of their time, and in its heyday it really was the place to be in its niche. Hopefully the discord community stays active!

    and i dont think I am going to close the site it is just likely to change drastically but I am working on something for the interim still fleshing it out. Most of the forums are going to be gone though and the NUON site and Warcraft sites will probably to to different hosts. I might keep the news forum though :)

    I'm going on a backpacking trip pretty soon. I've been trying to do it for a few years now and it just couldn't happen. I'll be by myself, and I think it'll be really good for me. My pack is already too heavy so I can't bring alcohol, and that might be a benefit to me. Like had that probation and couldn't drink, but it's a bit different when you can't do something voluntarily versus threat of literal imprisonment

    The trail is 40 miles altogether, but I'm planning on cutting cross country a bit because I want to camp on top of this mountain. I'm bringing a little telescope, if there's still a place for it I'll post some pictures when I get back!

    Happy Thursday people! I think I have come up with a new direction for the site. One that will never fizzle out because a game is not popular anymore. I think I am going to try to make TheHelper.net a place that helps people with real stuff as much as it did with game technical support back in the day. Stay tuned...
