Battle.net would be pretty useless if the editor is how it is. The reason why games like wc3 are still being played is because of the multiplayer feature and the editor. Playing the same RTS game over and over gets boring and that's what makes a game die of in 1-3 years. If the game has a editor that allows people to make all types of games, the game doesn't get boring because of all the custom maps that are different genre of games that you can still play.

*cough* Broodwar. *cough*

There are more Melee games than custom games in Broodwar....

Too true.

Only thing I'd be worried about is linking BNet with my Facebook, I'd rather not have random BNet people knowing my FB, but, that's an option. Also, only semi-valuable info I've given to BNet is my e-mail. For the privacy issue, can someone explain why it's so bad Blizzard can use what you say online unless you're giving out money-making ideas?

Although that change was reverted because of the huge amount of protest it created.

Yeah. This one step was prevented now, I wonder what will happen next. Just because of one wave of protest, an enterprise sure won't change their philosophy.

About that "Cancelled 19 days ago", I didn't notice that when I posted the link. I still think that this is a bold step to make, and I'm sure this is not the last we hear in this matter.

If I remember right, I think they said that they were going to delay its launch and reconsider it, meaning that it could very well become an issue in the future, most likely just in a slightly different form.

Just FYI:
In order to provide the Battle.net Service, Blizzard must be entitled to access, monitor and/or review text chat, including private, or "whisper" chat, in the event of complaints from other users or violations of the law. By clicking the check box below, you agree that Blizzard (or one of Blizzard’s affiliates) has the right to monitor and review personal messages you send or receive on the Battle.net Service, or through any game that is playable through the Battle.net Service, to investigate potential violations of the law, the Battle.net Terms of Use, or the Terms of Use agreement specific to any game playable on the Battle.net Service. Blizzard will not use the information for any reason other than pursuing such violations.
From the EU "Chat Agreement". However:
User Content.“User Content” means any communications, images, sounds, and all the material and information that you upload or transmit through a Game client or the Service, or that other users upload or transmit, including without limitation any chat text. You hereby grant Blizzard a perpetual, irrevocable, worldwide, paid-up, non-exclusive, license, including the right to sublicense to third parties, and right to reproduce, fix, adapt, modify, translate, reformat, create derivative works from, manufacture, introduce into circulation, publish, distribute, sell, license, sublicense, transfer, rent, lease, transmit, publicly display, publicly perform, or provide access to electronically, broadcast, communicate to the public by telecommunication, display, perform, enter into computer memory, and use and practice such User Content as well as all modified and derivative works thereof. To the extent permitted by applicable laws, you hereby waive any moral rights you may have in any User Content.
From the EU ToS. Since the "Chat Agreement" is more explicit, I take it that one rules out the ToS's specifications with respect to chat messages.

I don't know if such a "Chat Agreement" has been implemented outside the EU, but in either case, Blizzard still reserves the right to fuck you over - and I think we can be pretty sure the agreements won't change before launch tomorrow.

Happy gaming. I think I'll skip SCII for now.

Hmm

All of these posts make me laugh. but here are my opinions.

1. Blizzard makes the best games. I will pay for them because I enjoy them in many different ways. The prices never seem unreasonable for me for the amount of time I spend playing them. Most of the payment options on their games now other than monthly upkeep is for vanity items that I don't necessarily need... so I don't see how they are going overboard.

2. I don't need that much privacy... I can learn more about you from facebook than blizzard can about your email address or your computer settup... Blizzard can read my texts! They can read my mind for all I care... maybe I have some good ideas in there for future games. Even if I was cybering with SerraAvenger on B.net I don't honestly think that it would ever effect me for someone to read that. But hey, maybe I'm just easy.

3. Facebook integration is OPTIONAL. get. over. it. you don't have to use it.

4. Campagins cost moneys?!? Honestly... It's a three part campaign. omg this game is awesome... the cinematics are FLIPPING AMAZING. I will buy each campaign as they are released. so what? You don't have to. but for the quality they are releasing...don't be ungrateful!!!

5. BLIZZARD will OWN MY MAPS!!! they don't have to give you a map editor... one of the best map editors I've ever seen mind you... one that took a long time and a lot of resources to put together...yours...to do with whatever you want...WHATEVER YOU WANT! and they need to own your content so that they can do creative things with it... like GIVE YOU CASH IF IT IS GOOD ENOUGH! If Blizzard were to use my map for anything I would probably shit myself and be happy for the rest of my life... but I'm not that good. and 99% of the people out there complaining aren't either. And the guys who are good enough for Blizzard to want anything to do with will get offered JOBS and/or compensation for their mapping... soooo yeah....

yeah so... really pretty much every point that people bring up is pretty much meaningless to me. I'm in love... I don't see how anyone can't be to be completely honest. And I feel bad for anyone who doesn't get this game. It's one of the best put together things out there. And it will bring joy to competitive players / casual gamers / mappers / custom game enthusiasts / friends / family / your neighbors...etc.

They made some stylistic choices with the battle.net ui that is different. I will miss chat channels and LAN... but as long as this game keeps impressing me, (as it has been for the last 6 hours) I can live with a new model.

I think that thread exaggerates things - they won't force you to link to your FB account if you don't want to, and I doubt they would do most of that stuff, I think they are just saying it for their own protection so that they don't run into the issues they did with sc1 and wc3 when they were too nice (where others ended up making more money off of their game then they did)

either way we will find out once it's released how everything works

Because it's illegal? When you pay using your credit card you agree to provide you correct personal information. If that is considered to be part of what Blizzard reserves the right to disclose there's no way whatsoever one can legally prevent them from doing so.
Besides, just giving them the right to publish pairs of email addresses and IP addresses is insanity. I don't want everybody who knows my email address to know where I live, and I sure as hell don't want anyone I don't know to know my email address at all nor where I live at all.

EDIT: See next post.

Easy, don't use your credit card on starcraft.

give fake name, adress and else, give everything fake, GREAT! now you can only play and enjoy because you are playing the game like the games you plaied on the past, which means:
-no credit card.
-fake names.
-fake mails.
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOAH

Yeah, this is real, US has some insace EULAS...I read the EULA of Tibia (german game) and Avira(german antivirus) both are nice, and nothing is freaking crazzy about them, but when I read some US EULAS I amlmost feel afraid of using the product...
one of the EULAS sais that your soul belongs to the company :D

___________this comment above is not related to this quote
Yes you will, to play on the US servers you will need a US license, this is both true for WoW and Starcraft 2.

If you change your realmlist then all it will say is that it can't find any game licenses attached to your account, and then suggest that you might be connecting to the wrong region.

This issue have repercussions beyond not "playing against koreans", koreans could essentially buy whatever copy they wanted, and if they don't take into account latency, then these people might adversely affect game performance when you fight them.

But what it also means is:
You can't have US/Asia friends.
Maps can only be published in the region they were made in.

Ideally Blizzard should:
Keep ladders in each region
Matchmake accordingly to keep regions seperated
Allow friends from other regions
Allow maps from other regions
And if possible, allow that you can make "Custom matches" against people outside the designated region.

Would you prefer that popular custom maps such as DoTA was only playable for americans? Or that the map author would have to buy 3 or more copies of the game to have it spread in all regions?

Map publishing, as it stands now, is going to fail, with a 10MB map limit(ONE dota map is almost 70% of that), a 5 map max and a 20MB max storage, then mapping is basically destroyed, they even deny any map with certain words in it, i can't make a unit with the name "Support", because Blizzard apparently think that i would use it to scam people into thinking i'm an official Blizzard employee?

Everyone is paranoid about this personal information crap. Blizzard is a legitimate company, and it will not give out your personal information for no reason. It is certainly only a clause for legality issues. If they gave out your information, it would cause an uproar and no one would buy a Blizzard or Activision product in the future. Seriously, grow up, chill out, and be rational.

you are wrong.

PLease in this fucking world become every day MORE AND MORE FUCKING GREEDY AND CRAZZY!

Man, LISTEN TO THOSE FACTS ABOVE THEY REALLY HAPPENED TO ME ALL REAL:

1) three days after I made 18 years, one person called to my house, it was a bank asking If I would like to open an account. WTF!? HOW THE HELL THEY MANAGED TO KNOW I HAVE 18!? Because some company for sure sold my personal informantion to the bank.
2) I RECEIVE MOUNTHLY calls about bank asking me if I want some credit card, service, etc...WTF!? HOW THE HEL THEY GOT MY PRIVATE NUMBER!? THIS NUMBER IS SO FUCKING PRIVATE THAT IT IS NOT IN THE PHONE LIST, SO, HOW THE HELL THEY GOT IT!? because someone sold my info to them.

What I'm trying to say is that blizzard CAN sell your information to other companies and will never know they did.
You will probably be a victim of the focused marketing, they know who you are and they will try to sell you what you like.
this is the future of our godman capitalism...
(I'm not defending comunism or socialism, I just don't like any of them).

Boo hoo, phone calls from marketers.

Ever heard of the National Do Not Call List?

And for those saying you can just lie about your info, I don't see the point. Are you really that worried about your info being in Blizzard's databases? I've submitted my info to much less trustworthy companies before and I'm fine.

Not to mention if you plan on buying premium maps, you'll have to use a credit card (unless they use some payment cards or something)

I want to build a filtration system for my 3d printer, and that shit is so much more complicated than I thought it would be

  • Varine Varine:
Anyway I need to get some of those sensors and two air pressure sensors installed before an after the filters, which I need to figure out how to calculate the necessary pressure for and I have yet to find anything that tells me how to actually do that, just the cfm ratings
  • Varine Varine:
And then I have to set up an arduino board to read those sensors, which I also don't know very much about but I have a whole bunch of crash course things for that
  • Varine Varine:
These sensors are also a lot more than I thought they would be. Like 5 to 10 each, idk why but I assumed they would be like 2 dollars
  • Varine Varine:
Another issue I'm learning is that a lot of the air quality sensors don't work at very high ambient temperatures. I'm planning on heating this enclosure to like 60C or so, and that's the upper limit of their functionality
  • Varine Varine:
Although I don't know if I need to actually actively heat it or just let the plate and hotend bring the ambient temp to whatever it will, but even then I need to figure out an exfiltration for hot air. I think I kind of know what to do but it's still fucking confusing
  • The Helper The Helper:
Maybe you could find some of that information from AC tech - like how they detect freon and such
  • Varine Varine:
That's mostly what I've been looking at
  • Varine Varine:
I don't think I'm dealing with quite the same pressures though, at the very least its a significantly smaller system. For the time being I'm just going to put together a quick scrubby box though and hope it works good enough to not make my house toxic
  • Varine Varine:
I mean I don't use this enough to pose any significant danger I don't think, but I would still rather not be throwing styrene all over the air
