NVidia Geforce 4 ti 4600.

I plan on getting the NVidia Geforce 4 ti 4600 128MB DDR Ram video card. I know that a lot of different companies manufacture it. Which is the best for pure gaming? Also I'm not totally sure that my computer can support it. I belive that it requires a 300 watt power supply and I do not know if I have that. I have tried looking around to find my power supply on the net to find out, but have not been able to find it. It is a Sparkle Power Supply(SPI), model FSP250-60GTA. Also if this helps, my motherboard is a MicroStar(MSI), model number MS-6300 LITE. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks.

Judging from the model number on the power supply, I'd guess it's a 250 watt.
It should be marked somewhere visible along witht he line currents.

That's a 250W power supply. It will probably still work... personally I always try to use at least 300W, preferably even 350W nowadays. It depends how many CD drives, hard drives, fans, other cards etc you have.

I'd say the best manufacturers are Abit and Asus. Other companies are fine too-- usually the only noticeable difference is the quality of the onboard fan, and the software that gets bundled with it.

The cost of the 4600 should drop somewhat soon when the Geforce FX ("NV30") comes out. Of course then you'll want THAT card instead =)

huh? We are talking about video cards. (Nvidia doesn't make cards... they make the chips but the actual cards are made by several different companies.)

Do you recommend that I buy another power supply for my computer? I have 1 DVD drive, 1 burner, 1 60gig HD, a Sound Blaster Live! Value card, and a 56k modem card. Thats about it unless you count the RAM(1 512 stick and 1 256). As for fans the only ones I can think of are one on the heat sink, one that blows the air out of the comp(the biggest one), and 2 fans on the current video card that I have.(gfx Voodoo5 64MB) What do you think?

One more thing that I thought of, does it matter if the ram on my mother board is SD and the ram on the video card is ddr?

The nforce is a chipset used on motherboards... Once again we are talking about video cards in this thread. Yes I know that nforce boards have onboard video... but this is not a "card" -- its a chip built onto the board.

And nvidia doesn't make motherboards either, only chipsets.

Yes I recommend getting a 350W power supply but I think you can probably get by with what you have... but if you have problems you'll know what the first thing to replace is Depends how much money you are willing to spend.

No, it doesn't matter.

Inadequate or flaky power will either make things not work, or will cause stability problems. But it won't slow you down.

well what's the difference between which maker makes the card while all the chipest inside the card are all the same (nvidia)?

my card is visiontek, does it suck?

Also, it depends if the manufacturers feel like optimizing the nVidia reference board designs or not. This includes memory speed/timing/whatever it is, default clock speed settings, physical board design, and other goodies that you probably won't notice =)


Check the reviews and research. Hit www.google.com and type in the manufacturer and model (ex: Asus GeForce 4 TI 4600). There's lots of 'em, and they usually compare stuff.

Just sayin this since I got kinda ripped off on my Voodoo2. Plain ol reference design, cheap/slow memory (compared to other models). It's supposed to be 20% slower than Monster II models. Ah well..still plays Diablo II just fine =P

but buying a gf 4600 sounds like plain stupid to me
first of all there are no games out there that utilize the 128 megs on that card and i can know coz i drokking own one and i wish i never bought it hehe.
the ati is kicking arse all over .
the nv30 is around the corner
with that in mind i would get a TI 4200 runs every drokking game depending on the CPU u got ..
and when u run into trouble u get a new vidcard for cheap . and when u run into trouble the nv30 that is going to crush the ati 9700 pro is going tobe really cheap .. for all ya know that vidcard won't be drokking around by then when u really need it . and have to resort to a vidcard that is even tons faster and cheaper
