I am attempting to create an object that will serve as a defensive structure. The model file I want to use is for Barricade. When the unit builds the barricades, only a shadow appears.

When placing the unit in the editor it says the model file cannot be loaded, and I get the green box. It's not an imported file or anything so.. what could the deal be? I'm going to try and screw around with it some more and if I do find a solution I'll post it for others to read.

heres what u do

tehre is allready a wall u can use or any model from dodads

go into object editor and it should be a destructible or dodad...

then what u do u see is u make it have health and put as a custom if u want and all and edit its stats in that way u can make it part of a players buildings have health and be able to be killed

...

That is completely useless. :banghead:

He's making a unit, not a destructible, not a doodad, a unit. He's using the model file for the Barricade destructible. You can't make a destructible or a doodad into something that can be built, as you seem to be saying (it's hard to tell). You can give a building the model file of a destructible or doodad, as he's doing.

Moving on.

The Barricade model doesn't have a Birth animation. This might be a problem. Not sure though.

Couldn't it be for the variations of the model?
Try adding a 0 or a 1 to the name of the model you're using.

Adding a 0 didnt change anything. Nor did a 1. Does the error message

Could not load file: Doodads\Destructables\LordaeronSummer\Barricade\Barricade.mdl have anything to do with why its not showin up? Or is it because the model file for a UNIT doesn't exist and thats why it can't find it or what? Just to get some wheels turning so I'm not just whinng and saying no it didn't work. I wanna help, I really do! lol

Use Barricade <Variation 1> as the model, not Barricade <Base>.

Your right it can't find the model because it doesn't exist.
Destructibles are actually several models. There are 2 versions of each model. One has s on the end and is a stand version and the other has a d on the end and is the d version. Each one has a number after it(starting from 0) that represents it variation. Depending on the tileset a different skin is loaded.
To solve your problem would require extracting the model, changin several paths then reimporting it.

Huh? I just got it to work in the editor with a Peasant with very little fuss.

I have no idea what you're talking about with extracting and all that.. and when I was looking through the object editor I couldn't find a variation model. When I'm saying object editor i'm looking at the screen that is the object I'm trying to create, so there is no confusion.

So.... :banghead:

So.... :banghead:
Here's what I did:
  1. Open the Unit Editor.
  2. Select the Peasant unit.
  3. Double-click on Art - Model File.
  4. Switch the Preset menu to Destructibles.
  5. Select Barricade <Variation 1>.
  6. Click OK.
  7. Test it.
Isn't this something like what you wanted?

.. double click on Art Model file in the Object editor

in the preset doodads is 'barricade <variation 1>

I could not find the variation stuff, but I typed in the extra 1 and it worked, lol! At times i really do wanna :banghead: Well thanks for your time guys, hopefully I can return the favor ( Like that will happen )

Hey Ghan, whatever cron job its part of its not running its been the same for days. If it does not work can we remove it?
  • The Helper The Helper:
    LOL! A tweak job!

this is the fix I get from that yeah this is hard to control. disabling bots is pretty much necessary as ai and other bots would push really old threads to the top. reduce weight of view count. disable guest view tracking if you really want to push active threads to the top. a bit of tinkering for a few days with the weights and other settings should get you a decent trending widget box.
  • Ghan Ghan:
I changed the settings a bit.
  • Ghan Ghan:
Narrowed it to 7 days for the half-life and set views to 0 weight.
  • The Helper The Helper:
I dont think Trending would work for this forum it would be better to just have the last 5 posts from anywhere
  • Ghan Ghan:
Probably will have to give it some time to update.
  • Ghan Ghan:
I'm guessing it is not retroactive.

One thing I have noticed and I dont know if it is by design but like 1 out of 3 times I come to the site the Anubis screen just hangs open, if I refresh it will go away but sometimes it hangs
  • Ghan Ghan:
    I've seen that as well.
  • The Helper The Helper:
Wow - the change in the stats are major. I kind of knew it was all bots but wow, to see the effect. Why the social media sites cant do something like this I have no idea.
  • Ghan Ghan:
Probably inflates their numbers so they look better to advertisers.
  • The Helper The Helper:
Yeah google does not filter those bots. I remember when Apex was doing Google ads I saw the same IPs in there as I was seeing here - google is totally tracking all those bots as traffic and most google traffic, at least ours, was all bots
  • The Helper The Helper:
