odd bandwith network problem

old situation
1 win2k machine with 2 networking cards that was connected to a win 98 machine and one with an isp . for clarity the win2k machine is the first machine to reveive data from the isp . and internet sharing is enabled so the old win98 machine can have internet access also ..
the speeds where great . tho slower for the win98 machine tho that one was only used to collect email and surfing no problem ..

then the win98 machine dies .

i replace the win98 machine with a box with win2k loaded on it ..
the replaced box consumes all bandwidth at the sudden .. download speeds are impressive ..
the other machine who is connected directly to the isp is doing super poor now while it used tobe so great .

how can this be and how i can reverse the situation ?

ps i did not fiddle around changing settings i simply replaced a box with win2k pro loaded on it ..
they both run on that OS btw

odd even with the other comp turned down the other machine is still slow as hell connection wise

after a few hours of changing stuff re the network the whole works u know the drill ..

i decided to optimize the registery
i got cablenut from www.majorgeeks.com
ran it
blam i am at blazing speeds again .
funny enough the other computer is still fast not as fast as the other one that was slow as on dailup but i am downloading 1Mb files under 3 secs again
