Odd disk cache issue

So I'm playing my fav. game Americas Army:SF, and two good maps are REALLY choppy for me. After getting fed up, I hover over Cacheman, which I had running at the time, it showed me using 400Mbyt paging file usage, and my ram at 50mbs (of 256). I was floored, since I capped my disk cache at what they say is good for optimization (I forget how they said it, like 256x.10x1024 or something? was in tweak guide). Anyway, any idea how this is happening and perhaps how to stop it?

AMD Athlon 1800xp, 256MB DDR, Geforce 2 MX 400, 40GB Maxtor HD. Its really really annoying playing some games and having my HD do all the work and reeeeeeeeealy chopping up the game.

Well you should get more RAM.

Usually I just let Windows handle the size of the paging file. You can read 100 different sites and get 100 different ways of optimizing it and I've never seen a difference. Microsoft recommends 1.5 times the amount of physical memory.

You will never have all of your physical memory in use, because the computer would crash. In order to do paging, it needs to use some memory as a buffer to switch things between physical memory and the disk.

Anyway 256 is not very much RAM for gaming purposes and of course you will find it choppy

I don't understand why its showing 400mbs when I got it set to max like 50 or something mbs, though. Or is paging file usage, and disk cache differnet and i'm a moron?

Disk cache is different but I'm not familiar with what Cacheman is telling you since I don't use it.

And 50megs is too small for a pagefile.

Where are you setting this limit of 50??

If you want my advice, uninstall cacheman, let Windows manage the size of the pagefile and upgrade to 512MB of RAM
