I has been considering making my map open source, that is you can open the map and read the GUI triggers, but if u tried saving it it will get messed up. How do i do it, is the one in Map Optimiser the thing to use? And how safe is open source map?

Thanks in advance.

I've seen some of these maps before. Just don't let it delete the triggers, only the units, sounds and maybe some of the stuff like that, and then they won't be able to use any units in the map, making it unable to run (properly)

I saw a way to make a map open source some time ago on wc3campaigns.com, wonder if it's still there. They corrupted the map by placing thousands of invisible messed up doodads on it, that were very hard to delete because they were invisible, and they imported a corrupted script file so the doodads would cause WE to crash upon saving.

U can still make the doodad appear visible by using object manager. I believe there are other better ways.

lord , a brilhant thing is open your map in mpq.. remove the ".doo" than repalce it for a null one.
that makes even if he tries to save it will close the we some kind of bug.
well good lucky :)

What is this mpq thing? I keep hearing about it for various reasons but I still don't know what it is. And tell me more about this .doo, I think that would be very useful to keep newbs out.

Have you actually tried protecting your map with the open source thing in Vexorian's Map Optimizer yet? I think that one should be perfect. You can see all objects, triggers, terrain and options, but from the inside the map is messed up 'till the bones (well, in such a way that it becomes smaller and loads faster... Ok, it's only messed up from WE's point of view), so it would be near impossible to let WE save the map.

I have yet to check out Map Optimiser but I believe the GUI triggers are deleted.

You are right, Lordbevan, the GUI triggers are deleted, along with the stuff that allows the world editor to load the units, and other stuff. Yes it is in Map Optimizer, it should say *Allow map to be opened for viewing* but i haven't used it for a lot of updates, and he might have changed it. Look at burbenog, that td has done the same thing you want to do.

By "mpq thing" they mean a program like WinMPQ, to open .mpq files. The .doo must be some file in a map, but I don't know what it is.

The map optimizer's one allows people to easily see or "edit" war3map.j, imports, and objects.

It is possible to rig a map to literally explode when saving, although I know 6 methods, I can't explain them cause the guide to add them to a map is also the guide to remove them from a map.

At the end they aren't safe at all, and just takes sometime to find them, but obviously the average jimmy won't find them unless this thing causes him to be converted into a more advanced mapper.

If you find one, avoid doing what DArky did in his tower defense, just add the rig Once , not thousands of times since that actually makes it easier to find it,

i believe with Vex's optimizer even when open source it still has the triggers erased, but it does allow ppl to open it nad look at all teh units and abilities and such, as well was the placed units i believe, but the triggers are, if im not mistaken, hidden even when open source mode

i really cant get the point on this guys

if you make poeple cannot edit, why u wan to show it? Do you know what is the meaning of open source?

"open" just does not means "open". "Open" means in "Open force" that people can look, edit and imprrove or develope different things from source. Open source files belongs to everyone. This issue does not fits with human egos.

Just copy paste your triggers to a PDF file then...

My definition of open source is for people to read the map to find out how things are done. So that they waste less time on trial and error, and just copy wat others have already written.

I dont want people to release 10000 versions of my map and screw it up, although i will be happy if some people are willing to read my maps to point out mistakes or improvements.

Guys just a heads up I am going to be shutting the site down soon. I am just waiting on the NUON people to decide whether they want to transfer forum data and keep the discord. My email is [email protected] for anyone that wants to keep in touch and I have a facebook too. I will make an official post later. Love you guys and will miss everyone!

Someone email AtariAge and see if they want me to transfer the forum data over to it
  • Ghan Ghan:
Could probably keep NUON stuff around here if we wanted.
  • Ghan Ghan:
Hmm what to do about the World Editor site though?
  • Stephen Stephen:
I'd rather personally just own a backup of the Nuon data than see it go to AtariAge honestly. If it gets enshittified as per usual, or if some of the "regular" Jaguar folks get there, it's not gonna be fun
  • The Helper The Helper:
There will be a github of the forum data so the NUON Forum Data I guess would be available there
  • The Helper The Helper:
World Editor is technically Ryoko stuff not mine you guys can keep that I am not in that even
  • jonas jonas:
:( end of an era :(
  • The Helper The Helper:
Dont think of it as an end jonas - think of it as a beginning, because really my friend that is what it is.

Also, anyone who is reading this and is sad - don't be, turn off the Internet, step away from the box - enjoy your life - there is so much more out there for you than there is here for you.
