after installing the latest linux-suse update i cant go in the closed b-net (theres always the world-not-active-message), but ever ive tried to go in the open b-net i can.
may it be a question of linux?
may it be a port-problem?
is there a different internet-protokoll between closed and open b-net??
pls - i need a fast answer, because there is less fun without diablo :,-(

I'm not good when it comes to networking, but the only difference I can think of between Open and Closed Battle.net is the following :

On Open Battle.net, a created game is hosted on the game creator's (host) computer.

On Closed Battle.net, a created game is hosted on Battle.net's servers.

are you running Diablo on the linux box (I suppose this is possible if you put the effort in) , or are you using the linux box as a firewall/proxy/whatever ?

The D2 closed realms require ports 6112 to 6119 and 4000 for tcp and udp, last time I checked

B-net Ports

thx rapmaster,
i hope this will help my net-admin to fínd out what happens.
btw - what's the name of the program 4 checking the ports?
i've just found the anti-trojan-check (it founds only port 23 and 80)

oki rapmaster,
ive been loged in now.
ive seen ur action 4 move my last thread at the right position - thx.
but i ever need the program to find out what ports r used by my server. if u know the name of the program - pls tell me.

many thx

closed vs open-B-Net

i got new infos about the problem.
my connection goes at a linux-server.
this server spreads all the users on tree dsl-modems.
its done by a dynamic change of the amount of data using by all of the users.
there may be another reason. my aministrator dont know any fact about the b-net-protokol, but he think the hardware-router couldn't be able to understand this protokol.

pls- i need help

ive some new facts for describing the problem

everytime iom able to log in the closed battle-net, but only sometimes i found my chars to play with them for about 1 hour.
normaly i found the message "world isnt active".
it seems to be caused by the dynamic-changing of the 3 shared dsl-modems.
is there any option to change at the linux-server for supporting my b-net ativities????
there isnt any relevant port blocked by the firewall.
ive no idea!!!

pls -- the nightlive sux without b-net duells, my ama is worry about no killing last month -- pls, i need help

OK-- the router doesn't need to understand the b.net protocol-- it just needs to its job and route the packets along. It doesn't care about the nature of the data.

So you are saying that the linux box has some kind of software that spreads the Internet load over 3 DSL connections and shares this internet connection?

Hmm I suppose that could cause problems but I'm not sure how it works ....

It's weird that you are able to connect sometimes, but not always (did I understand correctly?)

Battle.net doesn't work very well through proxies-- Blizzard says that it does, but it doesn't respond well to weird configurations.

hmmm

no, u r not right,

ALWAYS im able to connect to the open b-net and play any game there.
ALWAYS im able to connect to closed b-net, but there starts the problem. usually i get the message "world not active" and only sometimes i can play a game with my closed chars and often does the game closed after playing a few minutes - with the next message "connection failed" and after reconnecting "world nor active"

btw,

i was ever connected through proxies, but the problem started after installing the new linux-server which was able to share the internet-connections

How often does the Trending Content box refresh?
  • The Helper The Helper:
Also, in the last template there was a seperation between sticky threads and regular threads in the forum
  • Ghan Ghan:
Not sure. It's probably part of a cron job.
  • The Helper The Helper:
Hey Ghan, whatever cron job its part of its not running its been the same for days. If it does not work can we remove it?
  • The Helper The Helper:
    LOL! A tweak job!
  • The Helper The Helper:
this is the fix I get from that yeah this is hard to control. disabling bots is pretty much necessary as ai and other bots would push really old threads to the top. reduce weight of view count. disable guest view tracking if you really want to push active threads to the top. a bit of tinkering for a few days with the weights and other settings should get you a decent trending widget box.
  • Ghan Ghan:
I changed the settings a bit.
  • Ghan Ghan:
Narrowed it to 7 days for the half-life and set views to 0 weight.
  • The Helper The Helper:
I dont think Trending would work for this forum it would be better to just have the last 5 posts from anywhere
  • Ghan Ghan:
Probably will have to give it some time to update.
  • Ghan Ghan:
I'm guessing it is not retroactive.
  • Ghan Ghan:
Next on the punch list: Update the server to Ubuntu 24.04.
  • The Helper The Helper:
Mad Lads is new I see it displays original post date
  • The Helper The Helper:
as long as it changes it is good - it is good now it updated and its new stuff

One thing I have noticed and I dont know if it is by design but like 1 out of 3 times I come to the site the Anubis screen just hangs open, if I refresh it will go away but sometimes it hangs
  • Ghan Ghan:
    I've seen that as well.
  • The Helper The Helper:
Wow - the change in the stats are major. I kind of knew it was all bots but wow, to see the effect. Why the social media sites cant do something like this I have no idea.
  • Ghan Ghan:
Probably inflates their numbers so they look better to advertisers.
  • The Helper The Helper:
Yeah google does not filter those bots. I remember when Apex was doing Google ads I saw the same IPs in there as I was seeing here - google is totally tracking all those bots as traffic and most google traffic, at least ours, was all bots
  • The Helper The Helper:
oh wow, i bet i can post x links now and do the webp pics now giggity
  • The Helper The Helper:
