Opening a .Box file.

Hello everyone,

I have a .box file containing several audio files and I'd like to extract those audio files. However, I can't find any software that would allow me to do so. The only program I found was ThrottleBox Player, made in 1999. This program is obviously no longer compatible with Windows 7, unfortunately, so I can't seem to use it.

Any clues as to how I could open the .box file?

Not quite sure. When I try to install it it specifically mentions that it needs Windows Media Player. When I then try to proceed with the setup it tells me it can't continue, because WMP is missing ( which is obviously not the case ). I tried downgrading to WMP 6.4, but that version couldn't be installed in Windows 7.

Thus, I could not install the ThrottleBox Player.

Haha, I tried using Windows 98 compatibility mode before, but I was prohibited from editing compatibility mode ( even though I'm admin ), so I didn't bother looking at it any more. Turns out I simply had to click "change settings for all users", where I could change the compatibility mode.

Can't believe I had forgotten that...

Thanks for your help Slapshot!

*Sorry for the double post*

So I got Throttlebox to work, but apparently it's not the program I needed for what I wanted to do.

What I'm trying to do is unpack the Audio.box file ( and the "Speech0.box" file ) of the game Beasts and Bumpkins. This file, as the name suggests, contains all the music ( and speech files ) of the game, thus I thought it would be possible to open it with Throttlebox and then seperately save every audio file. However, the .box file type used in Beasts and Bumpkins is not the same as what most .box files are for ( apparently ).

Thus, I am wondering whether someone knows a method to unpack such a .box file. If necessary, I could upload a relevant file to further clarify which kind of file type I'm talking about.

games usually protect their content in some way to prevent you from doing what your trying to do, sorry but I don't think you can do what your trying to do unless they let you - they will also use the incorrect file extension sometimes just to screw with you further

PeaZip is a program for more general compressed files. What I'm looking for is something similar to MPQ viewer, but for .box files.

These .box files have to be extractable somehow - after all, the game does it and there is a guy who uploaded some of the audio files on youtube ( for example this ).

This game is from 1996 or 1997. I'm not sure they were so strict on ripping files from games back then as nobody knew what to do with it anyway. And, as mentioned before, someone managed to get the music files.

then I would either get the audio from youtube or ask the person, chances are they were somehow connected to the development team of the game

I've already downloaded and converted some of the videos on Youtube, but I can only use two of the ones uploaded there. I've also contacted the person who uploaded the music, but since he hasn't logged onto his Youtube account for 11 months, I'm not sure I'll be able to get a response from him - though, of course, I could get lucky, since one usually gets an Email when someone has sent a message via Youtube.

Ergo, I thought someone ( perhaps a skilled programmer? ) here might know a solution to the problem at hand.

For the mean time, I'll keep on trying different things, but it would of course be great if there would be a definite solution.

I want to build a filtration system for my 3d printer, and that shit is so much more complicated than I thought it would be
  • Varine Varine:
Apparently ABS emits styrene particulates which can be like .2 micrometers, which idk if the VOC detectors I have can even catch that
  • Varine Varine:
Anyway I need to get some of those sensors and two air pressure sensors installed before an after the filters, which I need to figure out how to calculate the necessary pressure for and I have yet to find anything that tells me how to actually do that, just the cfm ratings
  • Varine Varine:
And then I have to set up an arduino board to read those sensors, which I also don't know very much about but I have a whole bunch of crash course things for that
  • Varine Varine:
These sensors are also a lot more than I thought they would be. Like 5 to 10 each, idk why but I assumed they would be like 2 dollars
  • Varine Varine:
Another issue I'm learning is that a lot of the air quality sensors don't work at very high ambient temperatures. I'm planning on heating this enclosure to like 60C or so, and that's the upper limit of their functionality
  • Varine Varine:
Although I don't know if I need to actually actively heat it or just let the plate and hotend bring the ambient temp to whatever it will, but even then I need to figure out an exfiltration for hot air. I think I kind of know what to do but it's still fucking confusing
  • The Helper The Helper:
Maybe you could find some of that information from AC tech - like how they detect freon and such
  • Varine Varine:
That's mostly what I've been looking at
  • Varine Varine:
I don't think I'm dealing with quite the same pressures though, at the very least its a significantly smaller system. For the time being I'm just going to put together a quick scrubby box though and hope it works good enough to not make my house toxic
  • Varine Varine:
I mean I don't use this enough to pose any significant danger I don't think, but I would still rather not be throwing styrene all over the air

I bitch about Xenforo sometimes but it really is full featured you just have to really know what you are doing to get the most out of it.

I do know this - xenforo dropped the ball by not keeping the vbulletin reputation comments as a feature. The loss of the Reputation comments data when we switched to Xenforo really was the death knell for the site when it came to all the users that left. I know I missed it so much and I got way less interested in the site when that feature was gone and I run the site.
