Overclocking

How do I do it? Should I do it? Can I do it?

Here's my comp specs:

AMD Athlon 2100+ XP
(running at 1.73 ghz, which is the default isn't it?)

And I'm loving this new computer.

So how do I overclock it, if I can, and should I?

I wouldn't bother unless you want to invest in some serious cooling -- I doubt that the performance increase would be noticeable except maybe on benchmarks

Ummm there are how-to guides online but I couldn't find a specific good one

AMD Athlon 2100+ XP requires a different type of "Unlocking" from the other methods used for AMD's in the past.

This is no longer a simple process.

My suggestion is to find any bottlenecks in the system and address them. Leave the proc alone. Let it do it's job.

If you really want to play with Overclocking, buy a xp 2000. Much simpler to unlock.

i wouldn't oc that cpu .. tricky as memnoch mentioned and that 2200 can't go far anyways even if u can OC it

Make sure you have the latest chipset drivers for your motherboard (i.e. Via 4-in-1) -- it makes a different for AMD systems.

With Windows XP its not a big deal because it ships with a fairly up-to-date version (in many cases) but definetely for older OSes like Win2k/ME etc

Be careful-- it depends what kind of motherboard you have and what chipset it uses (it's not always via)

I have an ASUS A7S333 motherboard... sp I shouldn't use these VIA ones?

You would want the SiS 745 drivers for that board...
