Well, I guess I'll be packing ALL my own suitcases next trip I take.

I'm up in Kentucky for a dance competition with my Compaq laptop. The laptop itself is a dream, except for the fact that it does not have a CD drive included in the computer itself, but a USB component. Anyway, Thursday was a rush, last minute packing and such after dinner and getting out the door. My wrong move was that I told my father to grab the computer and the CD drive. I have two USB CD drives - the dvd drive I bought with the computer, and the burner that I did <i>not</i> install on the laptop. Of course, he packed the burner.

Now, even though I'm fortionate to have the thing with me in the first place, it would be better if I could get the CD drive to work. Since I do not have the install cd, I need to find a driver. So far, every driver I have tried to use has failed. Heres what I got:

Compaq Presario Laptop
Windows ME
HP CD-Writer 8200 series (e)

Currently I have uninstalled all drivers that were on the drive. Any help on locating the correct driver would be appreciated.

Just so you know, I am POSITIVE there is a driver that I could install to get this thing to work, since almost the same situation happened a month ago with a different laptop. I searched for a driver, installed it, and I was able to use the burner.

Thanks....

Hey I think I found your driver, but I'm not sure which one is the correct one so, here's both URLs.

1) New USB Drivers
http://www.hp.com/cposupport/information_storage/software/usbver39.exe.html

2) HP CD-Writer Plus 8200e Series USB Drivers
http://www.hp.com/cposupport/information_storage/software/82e_usb.exe.html

hope that helps, if doesn't work, e-mail me at [email protected] or post another thread or for quick help, instant message me if you have AOL Instant Messanger, my screen name is BlueDevilz2003.

this is the fix I get from that yeah this is hard to control. disabling bots is pretty much necessary as ai and other bots would push really old threads to the top. reduce weight of view count. disable guest view tracking if you really want to push active threads to the top. a bit of tinkering for a few days with the weights and other settings should get you a decent trending widget box.
  • Ghan Ghan:
I changed the settings a bit.
  • Ghan Ghan:
Narrowed it to 7 days for the half-life and set views to 0 weight.

I dont think Trending would work for this forum it would be better to just have the last 5 posts from anywhere
  • Ghan Ghan:
Probably will have to give it some time to update.
  • Ghan Ghan:
I'm guessing it is not retroactive.

One thing I have noticed and I dont know if it is by design but like 1 out of 3 times I come to the site the Anubis screen just hangs open, if I refresh it will go away but sometimes it hangs
  • Ghan Ghan:
    I've seen that as well.
  • The Helper The Helper:
Wow - the change in the stats are major. I kind of knew it was all bots but wow, to see the effect. Why the social media sites cant do something like this I have no idea.
  • Ghan Ghan:
Probably inflates their numbers so they look better to advertisers.
  • The Helper The Helper:
Yeah google does not filter those bots. I remember when Apex was doing Google ads I saw the same IPs in there as I was seeing here - google is totally tracking all those bots as traffic and most google traffic, at least ours, was all bots

Weekend went by too fast. Next weekend I am going to try to do a nature thing - buddy of mine lives by the Colorado river and has some kayaks and invited me to do some kayaking from a place he knows to get on the river.
  • Ghan Ghan:
    That sounds like an adventure.
