So, recently, a friend of mine told me that someone needed help with a Facebook game. So, I told him to give the guy my email. Sure enough, he contacted me, but for something completely different:

Basically I've got a couple hundred thousand dollars to put together a new type of website. I can't offer a lot of details until a non disclosure is signed, but it's a type of social/professional networking site.

Anyway, the main design and functions are mostly created so we just need to make it work. Were trying to get a testable model by may 1st and you or whoevers interested will be paid for developing the initial work with the possibility to continue with the project and a percentage of the company.

If it sounds like something you could handle let me know, otherwise would you be able to give me some contact info for some people who might be interested?

I'm not BIG big into web design stuff. So, would anyone from TH.net be interested? I'm pretty sure from what I recall my friend saying is that ASP and/or Javascript would be involved.

EDIT: I responded saying that I'm interested and asked if he would be interested in taking on several people. Also asked about this engine: http://www.socialengine.net/features What do you guys think of it? It could be a useful PHP engine if we can get it for free from him. It's $200 or so but he has a few hundred dollars sooooo :)

I think he'd had more chances of finding people if he was working with PHP. I could do something of this kind, in PHP.

I would be interested in this project. I would like some more details though.

As the email reads: "I can't offer a lot of details until a non disclosure is signed"

this. and I would hope that he buys the game engine for you, that would mean he is serious

It's not a game, its a "a type of social/professional networking site".

So, get this: apparently the hundreds of thousands of dollars was TO THE PERSON WHO PROGRAMS IT! This is cause the guy is a rich asshole that happens to be able to dump a million or two into this project.

Why do I call him an asshole? After I responded saying I was interested, he responded saying that he found someone else to take the job offer. FUUUUUU-

As much as I dislike web development programming, I would suck it up for a nice, cool few hundred thousand dollars AND a stake in the company. :(

Grr....

Spending two hundred dollars makes you a serious developer...? Right, whatever.

And yes that is an asshole thing to do, and likely it will get no where so this is a huge waste of money on his part. HOWEVER I do need a lot of money and clearly he did not give me the job, therefore I concur: he is an asshole. Is there a name of this website so that we can defame it?

Yeah it's getting tough. Foreign people who don't seem to have spoken much English appear to have cornered the convenience store jobs and those teenagers pretty much got a stranglehold on fast food.

No I live in Oregon. They speak a lot more languages than Spanish here. The dude today was an Indian guy, pointed at every pack of cigarettes EXCEPT Marlboro 100's despite me saying "No, the red ones," over and over. They're only damn red ones and they take up half the rack! He seemed nice though.

Well in all honesty you guys are thinking about my 2 posts way too much lol. The original post I was misinformed. If you got the job, you WOULD BE GIVEN initial cash for development tools and be eventually paid "a few hundred thousand dollars". Crazy huh?

How can you tell the difference between real traffic and indexing or AI generation bots?
  • The Helper The Helper:
The bots will show up as users online in the forum software but they do not show up in my stats tracking. I am sure there are bots in the stats but the way alot of the bots treat the site do not show up on the stats
  • Varine Varine:
I want to build a filtration system for my 3d printer, and that shit is so much more complicated than I thought it would be
  • Varine Varine:
Apparently ABS emits styrene particulates which can be like .2 micrometers, which idk if the VOC detectors I have can even catch that
  • Varine Varine:
Anyway I need to get some of those sensors and two air pressure sensors installed before an after the filters, which I need to figure out how to calculate the necessary pressure for and I have yet to find anything that tells me how to actually do that, just the cfm ratings
  • Varine Varine:
And then I have to set up an arduino board to read those sensors, which I also don't know very much about but I have a whole bunch of crash course things for that
  • Varine Varine:
These sensors are also a lot more than I thought they would be. Like 5 to 10 each, idk why but I assumed they would be like 2 dollars
  • Varine Varine:
Another issue I'm learning is that a lot of the air quality sensors don't work at very high ambient temperatures. I'm planning on heating this enclosure to like 60C or so, and that's the upper limit of their functionality
  • Varine Varine:
Although I don't know if I need to actually actively heat it or just let the plate and hotend bring the ambient temp to whatever it will, but even then I need to figure out an exfiltration for hot air. I think I kind of know what to do but it's still fucking confusing
  • The Helper The Helper:
Maybe you could find some of that information from AC tech - like how they detect freon and such
  • Varine Varine:
That's mostly what I've been looking at
  • Varine Varine:
I don't think I'm dealing with quite the same pressures though, at the very least its a significantly smaller system. For the time being I'm just going to put together a quick scrubby box though and hope it works good enough to not make my house toxic
  • Varine Varine:
I mean I don't use this enough to pose any significant danger I don't think, but I would still rather not be throwing styrene all over the air

I bitch about Xenforo sometimes but it really is full featured you just have to really know what you are doing to get the most out of it.
  • The Helper The Helper:
It is just not easy to fix styles and customize but it definitely can be done
  • The Helper The Helper:
I do know this - xenforo dropped the ball by not keeping the vbulletin reputation comments as a feature. The loss of the Reputation comments data when we switched to Xenforo really was the death knell for the site when it came to all the users that left. I know I missed it so much and I got way less interested in the site when that feature was gone and I run the site.
