PC troubles

I got this e-mail from a friend the other day, I was wondering if you guys could help.

maybe you can help me here, maybe not! I'm still having probs with my pc which I upgraded recently (new m/b, processor, RAM, power supply, fan etc) - it still keeps crashing for no apparent reason and also refuses to run some games occasionally (although doesn't lock up) - if it decides it will run them, it runs them well, but then completely freezes, and the only thing i can do is to reset the machine manually as it is a total system lock (i have win XP).

I have some of the error messages displayed on rebooting the pc -

when mentioning that the system instability could be due to the nvidia driver - I have since downloaded latest drivers but the problem still persists........any possible ideas, it is driving me a bit mad!!

I don't think it is an XP issue as a friend of mine has the same games (Colin Mcrae 2 and Microprose GP3) and they both run fine



My thought was it's a heat problem. He's not got any thermal good between the heatsink and the processor, and it run's 50-60c at 1.33 ghz, and I think it is a 1.33ghz processor.

50 - 60 Centigrade is 122 to 140 degrees Fahrenheit.

Personaly I think that is running a bit hot, I would suggest he get some thermal pase between the cpu and the heat sink.

He coul dtry running with the case open and a fan blowing air into the case to see if that helps. But I think you are correct about it being a heat problem.

I think that you are spot on. I have similar problems. My pc just reboots for no reason half way through a game.
It could be heat, although it may be worth checking the memory. Perhaps a mismatchin types ??

i just got over the same problem with my new xp 2100+
put a fan at the front of the case blowing cold air in, fan in the back blowing warm air out, and replace the heatsink with something copper.

Also what games is he running? XP does not run old games very well

I think the main culprits are Colin Mcrae 2 and Microprose GP3.
