Piece of @#$% V.92

I'm trying to add on a new modem to my comp so I can play DII multi. So I go to the store, and I see a creative labs modemblaster V.92 in a shiny box. It says download and surf speeds 2x regular 56k...and I'm going to myself 'whoo...pretty cool". Well, turns out it isn't. I installed the thing, drivers and all and when I tried to connect with it I get this horrible screeching sound and a mangled drawling dial tone. If I'm lucky I'll simply get a busy signal and be able to exit out. More often however the thing will freeze my entire comp! Sometimes both will happen. When I saw this...I plugged in my old ISA modem and it worked perfectly. I thought it might be a defective product but I got another modemblaster and the same thing happened.

Frustrated I went to the Creative Labs website for new drivers and troubleshooting. I tried to contact them but all I've gotten was some BS about new drivers and support not yet available. Does anyone else have a V.92 modem? Any help or suggestions appreciated.

ps V.92s are supposed to be backwards compatible

Yes, v.92 modems are supposed to be backwards compatible. My friend recently bought one and I installed it, and it made some unusual sounds while connecting, btu eventually it worked. I'd call your ISP and see if this is a problem on their end, because there shouldn't be any problem if you have the proper drivers installed.
Also, try to refrain on the profanity, it isn't necessary.

V92 is only supported if the ISP supports it .
they are backwards compatible . i sell v92 only now (only ones i can get for a good price) and not many probs with it . i sell sitecom and trust . no exp with creative tho .

I've tried two ISPs and the exact same thing happened...my old modem works fine, so I think it's a problem of this card..I haven't been able to find newer drivers for some reason.

I'm just wondering if he called his ISP and asked them what's up.
I couln't care less whether he curses again or not, just was warning him that first time.
