Hello I've been working on this terrain for a while now, and I need some critique on it. It was hard to do, and took alot of time, so I don't want it to go to waste. The area is part of my upcoming Orpg, Cintio Orpg. This area is in and around the small town Erean. Well enough talk here is the terrain!

Houses don't seem very realistically organized and some fences seem really close together leaving a very narrow gap, but generally it looks pretty good.

I'm not a great judge of terrain, I admit it, but here's the best I can tell you:

Since the map's not all that big, you shouldn't have too many problems, but be warned; the amount of doodads you have in front of those trees could get ugly in a larger map.

The town looks a leetle vanilla. Consider adding some barrels or troughs. It just needs some more village-y ambience. Other than that, nice job.

Thanks yeah fences are kinda closed up, and whats wrong with the houses?
EDIT: Fast replies guys, thanks if it gets too bad as the map gets bigger I'll remove some doods, and the town isn't finished I'm going to add shops and stuff, so I'll add barrels next to them.

Voted for the wrong option, meant 4. I like the terrain, but I'd like to see more nature.

Okay, so more birds, more rabbits and gardens.
EDIT: But actually if you played it there is quite a bit of animals just not in the pictures.

The houses don't have a natural feel to them... Kinda just looks like you put them all together to fill up space... I don't really know what you should do to fix it... Just saying I don't like them all that much.

Honestly (and I know first-hand how wierd this is going to sound), put yourself in the civil engineer's shoes. What goes where in the town? :)

Well in midevil times there wern't civil engineers ;), especially in a tiny town like Erean.. But your right I should make them more realistic.

Well, you figure they'd build nearest water and on/around good land, not to mention high, if possible, to make it defensible.

they have a small pond nearby and a farm close also, they are good, they just haven't gotten around to cutting down some trees to make a closer path to the farm. And I havent finished the pond yet lol :D

So long as we've established that I'm not criticising! I'm here to help, homie. ;) I'll post some pics of my lil' farmtown when I get home.... we can work off each other.

I quite like the texturing, but the trees are far to cluttered.
Make them start of not so thick and then get thicker and thicker, makes it a little more realistic.
Also, some of the doodads look a little spammed around the tree line. Remove a lot of them and spread them out across the empty areas.
Apart from that, it isn't to bad without any imports, and a lot better then other oRPGs I've seen.

How can you tell the difference between real traffic and indexing or AI generation bots?
  • The Helper The Helper:
The bots will show up as users online in the forum software but they do not show up in my stats tracking. I am sure there are bots in the stats but the way alot of the bots treat the site do not show up on the stats
  • Varine Varine:
I want to build a filtration system for my 3d printer, and that shit is so much more complicated than I thought it would be
  • Varine Varine:
Apparently ABS emits styrene particulates which can be like .2 micrometers, which idk if the VOC detectors I have can even catch that
  • Varine Varine:
Anyway I need to get some of those sensors and two air pressure sensors installed before an after the filters, which I need to figure out how to calculate the necessary pressure for and I have yet to find anything that tells me how to actually do that, just the cfm ratings
  • Varine Varine:
And then I have to set up an arduino board to read those sensors, which I also don't know very much about but I have a whole bunch of crash course things for that
  • Varine Varine:
These sensors are also a lot more than I thought they would be. Like 5 to 10 each, idk why but I assumed they would be like 2 dollars
  • Varine Varine:
Another issue I'm learning is that a lot of the air quality sensors don't work at very high ambient temperatures. I'm planning on heating this enclosure to like 60C or so, and that's the upper limit of their functionality
  • Varine Varine:
Although I don't know if I need to actually actively heat it or just let the plate and hotend bring the ambient temp to whatever it will, but even then I need to figure out an exfiltration for hot air. I think I kind of know what to do but it's still fucking confusing
  • The Helper The Helper:
Maybe you could find some of that information from AC tech - like how they detect freon and such
  • Varine Varine:
That's mostly what I've been looking at
  • Varine Varine:
I don't think I'm dealing with quite the same pressures though, at the very least its a significantly smaller system. For the time being I'm just going to put together a quick scrubby box though and hope it works good enough to not make my house toxic
  • Varine Varine:
I mean I don't use this enough to pose any significant danger I don't think, but I would still rather not be throwing styrene all over the air

I bitch about Xenforo sometimes but it really is full featured you just have to really know what you are doing to get the most out of it.
  • The Helper The Helper:
It is just not easy to fix styles and customize but it definitely can be done
  • The Helper The Helper:
I do know this - xenforo dropped the ball by not keeping the vbulletin reputation comments as a feature. The loss of the Reputation comments data when we switched to Xenforo really was the death knell for the site when it came to all the users that left. I know I missed it so much and I got way less interested in the site when that feature was gone and I run the site.
