pls help me with computer freeze... =(

hi all.
my computer is a P4 1.7GHz, 512 ram, nvidia geforce 2 MX/MX400.
the problem is this. it ALWAYS completely freezes when i'm playing warcraft 3 or trying to watch musio videos. it also randomly freezes (seldom) when i'm surfing the net or just chatting. could it have something to do with a corrupt registry? i try to scan the registry but it always hangs halfway. maybe a corrupt file?
and when i mean freeze, i mean even crt alt del doesn't work.
would appreciate any replies or helps. thanks very much.

Be sure none of your fans have stopped spinning and check out something like motherboard monitor to see what your temps are. Overheating will cause this kind of situation. Also this can be related to needing new drivers. And it can even be a power supply problem.

Wouldn't that cause the computer to shut itself down if overheating was the problem? Usually you run into a memory error or something related to this when your computer overheats.

I would have to agree with the drivers/power supply.

Have you added any new hardware onto your computer lately? Do you use one stick of 512 MB RAM or two 256 mb ram? or something else?

Do you have any type of errors coming up?

hi thanks for the replies guys. i doubt over heating is the problem coz the fan is working and i always on the aircon.

and now that u mentioned, yes i was using one stick of kingston 256 ram. and i bought another 512 kingston ram and added it in.
would that be a problem? i tried using 1 at a time but it still hangs

Sounds like you are having a mismatched Ram problem. Try just using 1 stick of memory instead of both as a test. Alternate between them.

Just because they are made by the same company doesn't mean they will match.

I would try just using that 512 mb ram in first to see if that solves the problem, don't put that other 256 mb ram back in unless the problem keeps coming back as often as it does now.

Make sure all of your video drivers are up-to-date, try using the latest version of directx also.

hmmm ok i tried switching both ram sticks. still doesn't work. =(
another noticable point is that it always hangs when i'm doing a registry scan/ repair. any ideas?

Yet again, did you update ALL of your drivers?, do you have any way of testing your power supply?
