MESQUITE, Texas - A YouTube video of a police officer using pepper spray on a baby squirrel has sparked outrage in the city of Mesquite, Tx.

A student recorded the incident. In the video, the officer is seen spraying the animal after it began chasing students around at Kimbrough Middle School.

Students are heard begging the cop, reffered to as Officer Davis on the video, to stop with cries of "No!" and "Don't spray him!"

Mesquite Police Department has defended the officer's actions.

We had squirrels everywhere at my high school. It wasn't a big deal. The only thing I can think of for this to make sense is it had rabies or something.

Squirrels don't carry rabies*

*it is possible for them to, but the % is actually sooooo small it's rediculous. Besides the fact that there are only a few cases of rabies a year in the US, squirrels are incredibly unlikely to actually carry it.

This officer was just being a dick. everyone could have walked away. no one needed to start spraying pepper spray. it's just stupid.

so what would you have let the squirrel just run around, possibly biting (small percent is still a percent) the kids, and even if it didnt have rabies, a bite could still cause infection. i feel bad for the squirrel yeah they are pretty awesome/cute but seriously what else could he have done to calm it down.

lol? yeah I would have just let it run around actually. It posed no threat. At California State University of Northridge squirrels run right up to you and look up, hoping for some food. It's just kind of funny... they are not bloodthirsty lol. Go to FireCat's link. They seem to be under the impression that it doesn't even happen (can't transmit to humans even if they do have it). I got bitten by some dog once and the animal control people told me not to even bother with a rabies shot because it's so highly unlikely.

Regardless, it's not about rabies... I'm pretty sure he just sprayed it for the hell of it... did you even watch the video? everyone is like DON"T DO IT... and he's just looking at it and then sprays it.

The whole thing is just juvenile.

You know people the squirrel is OK. It was just pepper spray. It was taken to the vet and then released. The cop did his job. He did not know about the rarity of rabies, he just knew his spray would not kill it and since when do squirrels come up on cops? Squirrels usually run when confronted - hello.

I've been attacked by squirrels before. I kicked one and I'm pretty sure it's dead. They bite pretty fucking hard, it hurts.

What an asshole cop. Why didn't he just throw a blanket on that squirrel?

Because people carry blankets around with them all the time, after all.... As much as I despise police and almost everything they do, I don't see why this is that big of a deal. I mean honestly, it's pepper spray. It just hurts for a bit, then life goes on normally. And even in the event he did kill it, it's a squirrel. It amazes me how up in arms you all are getting over this, seriously what the fuck guys? They MIGHT live what, five years? It probably would have been hit by a car or something in a few hours anyway.

How can you tell the difference between real traffic and indexing or AI generation bots?
  • The Helper The Helper:
The bots will show up as users online in the forum software but they do not show up in my stats tracking. I am sure there are bots in the stats but the way alot of the bots treat the site do not show up on the stats
  • Varine Varine:
I want to build a filtration system for my 3d printer, and that shit is so much more complicated than I thought it would be
  • Varine Varine:
Apparently ABS emits styrene particulates which can be like .2 micrometers, which idk if the VOC detectors I have can even catch that
  • Varine Varine:
Anyway I need to get some of those sensors and two air pressure sensors installed before an after the filters, which I need to figure out how to calculate the necessary pressure for and I have yet to find anything that tells me how to actually do that, just the cfm ratings
  • Varine Varine:
And then I have to set up an arduino board to read those sensors, which I also don't know very much about but I have a whole bunch of crash course things for that
  • Varine Varine:
These sensors are also a lot more than I thought they would be. Like 5 to 10 each, idk why but I assumed they would be like 2 dollars
  • Varine Varine:
Another issue I'm learning is that a lot of the air quality sensors don't work at very high ambient temperatures. I'm planning on heating this enclosure to like 60C or so, and that's the upper limit of their functionality
  • Varine Varine:
Although I don't know if I need to actually actively heat it or just let the plate and hotend bring the ambient temp to whatever it will, but even then I need to figure out an exfiltration for hot air. I think I kind of know what to do but it's still fucking confusing
  • The Helper The Helper:
Maybe you could find some of that information from AC tech - like how they detect freon and such
  • Varine Varine:
That's mostly what I've been looking at
  • Varine Varine:
I don't think I'm dealing with quite the same pressures though, at the very least its a significantly smaller system. For the time being I'm just going to put together a quick scrubby box though and hope it works good enough to not make my house toxic
  • Varine Varine:
I mean I don't use this enough to pose any significant danger I don't think, but I would still rather not be throwing styrene all over the air

I bitch about Xenforo sometimes but it really is full featured you just have to really know what you are doing to get the most out of it.
  • The Helper The Helper:
It is just not easy to fix styles and customize but it definitely can be done
  • The Helper The Helper:
I do know this - xenforo dropped the ball by not keeping the vbulletin reputation comments as a feature. The loss of the Reputation comments data when we switched to Xenforo really was the death knell for the site when it came to all the users that left. I know I missed it so much and I got way less interested in the site when that feature was gone and I run the site.
