port 6112 blocked?

Whenever I try to connect to bnet through brood war at college I get this error- "Your internet connection is either very poor or is not processing UDP packets through port 6112. You will be able to chat but not play games. Contact your internet service provider or your system administrator for assistance with opening this port."
Is there any way around this problem w/o having to deal w/ the admin? It seems rather odd that they would even block that port anyway.

That reminds me when I was living on campus. Once in a while I would get that same message, but I'd just reconnect again. Nothing you can do if your college actually blocked that port. Chances are they won't open it just so you can play games.

the thought just occurred ..
i know a few campus admins and they say :"our security is so worse that if it wouldbe a building it wouldbe 100 levels high"
and i see all those other students play games ..

One of the nice things after about SC 1.04 I think it was, you could actually change the UDP port to communicate on by adding a registry value. This can be a lovely work around if you know how the firewall works. Most likely you could get away with using port 137, 138, or 139, but this will cause internal network problems as you will have to disable NetBIOS in order to use these ports.
