Problem Setting Up Network

Ok, here goes. I was setting up my wireless network with no problems until it came time to configure my router.

I'm using Verizon DSL with the BEFW11S4 Linksys Wireless Router. I set up my Ethernet card no problem, and then I started to set up my router following the directions to the letter.

So I get to one part of the setup where it wants me to be connected directly to my DSL modem. I did that, and it worked no problem.

The next step involved plugging an ethernet cable from my computer to the router, and from the router to the DSL modem. Again, I did that no problem and have doubled checked all connections.

After that, it wanted me to hit 'Next' so that it could configure the router. However, it gave me an error message saying it could not connect to the Internet, despite the fact that all lights are on and green on both my router and my DSL modem. I try it a couple more times with various setups and basically the same results.

I've tried checking both the Linksys and Verizon websites with solutions, and both have the same info as the setup guide. I have already tried calling Linksys tech support. They had me reset the router, ping it, etc. I've gotten good results from that. I was able to ping my router no problem.

When it comes time for me to then enter 192.168.1.1 in IE to enter the router setup page, it gives me a "Page Cannot Be Displayed" error and MSN Explorer opens up wanting me to connect. I normally connect through MSN Explorer because my user id is set up through it and all that good stuff, but I keep getting stuck at this step.

I've got no clue what I'm supposed to do. I would think that it's not even supposed to try and connect to the Internet since it's supposed to be for the router. If I'm online and I punch in those numbers it takes me to a Westell site with diagnostics, etc. for my DSL modem.

Is there anything off the top of your heads which may be a solution? I'm going to try and contact Verizon when I get the chance and patience to do so.

P.S. For some of you this is not de ja vu, I posted the same thing at OTS to try and get as much coverage on the topic as possible. :)

OK, so if you type in "http://192.168.1.1" to your web browser, you get a "page cannot be displayed" message? And all the lights are green?

What is the IP address of your computer when you enter the above address? Are you on the same subnet with no gateway? Your IP should be in the range of 192.168.1.2 thru 192.168.1.254 in order to be able to pull up that page. If all you did was unplug the DSL modem from your computer and plug it into the Linksys, and then plug the Linksys into your computer without changing your IP information to something else or even using DHCP, I'm not surprised that you can't connect to the router. Make sure computer IP address is set correctly when you try to access the rotuer page and all should be well.

Problem solved! I hardwired the router with my PC and left the ethernet cable for the DSL connection unplugged, and it worked perfectly.

Everything seems to be running smooth.

Thanks for your help, Logical. :)

this is the fix I get from that yeah this is hard to control. disabling bots is pretty much necessary as ai and other bots would push really old threads to the top. reduce weight of view count. disable guest view tracking if you really want to push active threads to the top. a bit of tinkering for a few days with the weights and other settings should get you a decent trending widget box.
  • Ghan Ghan:
I changed the settings a bit.
  • Ghan Ghan:
Narrowed it to 7 days for the half-life and set views to 0 weight.

I dont think Trending would work for this forum it would be better to just have the last 5 posts from anywhere

One thing I have noticed and I dont know if it is by design but like 1 out of 3 times I come to the site the Anubis screen just hangs open, if I refresh it will go away but sometimes it hangs
  • Ghan Ghan:
    I've seen that as well.
  • The Helper The Helper:
Wow - the change in the stats are major. I kind of knew it was all bots but wow, to see the effect. Why the social media sites cant do something like this I have no idea.
  • Ghan Ghan:
Probably inflates their numbers so they look better to advertisers.
  • The Helper The Helper:
Yeah google does not filter those bots. I remember when Apex was doing Google ads I saw the same IPs in there as I was seeing here - google is totally tracking all those bots as traffic and most google traffic, at least ours, was all bots

Weekend went by too fast. Next weekend I am going to try to do a nature thing - buddy of mine lives by the Colorado river and has some kayaks and invited me to do some kayaking from a place he knows to get on the river.
  • Ghan Ghan:
    That sounds like an adventure.
