Problems Installing Second Hardrive (and fraps)

Ok , I am trying to FRAPS movies , and from what I've read having the game (WoW) and Fraps on the same hardrive can cause lag.

I have a gaming computer , but still lag during recording at 25 FPS , full screen.

So I tried installing a 2nd hardrive. I took it out from an older computer which still works fine. Both my hardrives are SATA. I have my BIOS Jumper Config set to Normal , 1-2. So I hook up my mainhardrive to Sata1 and slave to Sata2.

I try turning it on? Boom my 2nd one smokes / sparks. I proceed to throw out that hardrive...

Summary-
-I need help improving Fraps Quality , and reducing lag while recording.

Computer Specs
ATI Radeon 4870 HD , OC
Intel Duo Core 3.33GhZ
3324 MB RAM DDR2

-What did I do wrong when I installed my 2nd hardrive , or just a step by step help with installing SATA hardrives. (Before I kill my 2nd one)

    We have been getting crazy numbers reported by the forum of people online the bots are going crazy on us I think it is AI training bots going at it at least that is what it looks like to me.

    Most legit traffic is tracked on multiple Analytics and we have Cloud Flare setup to block a ton of stuff but still there is large amount of bots that seem to escape detection and show up in the user list of the forum. I have been watching this bullshit for a year and still cannot figure it out it is drving me crazy lol.
