Protect Your Map Manually

What You Need
  • A Text Program Like Notepad or Wordpad
  • A Map (make a copy of the orignal one)
  • Knowledge of World Editor Import Manager And MPQ

First Step
  1. Open your text program
  2. Save a blank text file
  3. Make a copy of the text file

Second Step
  • Import both blank text files
  • Check the box that says "use custom path"
  • Rename one "war3map.w3g" without quotes and "war3map.wtg" without quotes

What It Does?


It confuses the world-editor so the person trying to open your map will get these errors:
  • -You can't open it.
  • -It can't load any data.
  • -File Format Invalid.

FAQ

Q: Will this prevent people from taking my stuff?
A: Yes it will only for unexprience people aka n00bs

Q: Why use this instead of a map protector like Vex?
A: This is more simple and does not mess with strings and other stuff.

Q: Is it good to map protect?
A: Yes if you want to prevent people to make their own version of it.

Not much of a tutorial, it's closer to a free trigger(despite it not being a trigger). Still, I personally hope it gets accepted to wherever, because this could really help most of us on the forums. Except those who are really proficient and take protecting maps super seriously.

I just Restart my computer while im saving and that curupts the map so it can never be loaded again. Some one let me know if they find an easyer way that that! :D

You make a buckup first. The hole idear of map protection is that the map can not be opend by anyone, even the map maker. So stooging up the mpa like thi9s is the same thing as protectng.

Shure but when you spend half your life drunk things like that don't matter. Besids I havnt lost anything other that my map so far.

This program was meant for begginers so they wont have so much trouble on the vexorian's on what to do on it ;)

If this is a tutorial heres a few things needed:

Less font size difference (Your titles are to big)
A bit less color, use hex coding make them look darker at least
More information, such as why and when you would go about protecting your map
A bit more bulky descriptions

Yea I will add more stuff If this goes on the tutorial section I'll add like a paragraph of info. :cool:

It will go there faster if you add more stuff sooner. Also I suggest you take out the empty like between title and text:

and in the process corrupts my map. :mad: It is unplayable in the game. I have the version right too (1.18)

That is so easy to get around when you do it like that :rolleyes:

all you would have to do is get a mpq extracter and delete the 2 files and your done.
