Random restarts

I've just replaced my motherboard and processor and power supply in my computer, but i didnt reinstall windows XP, i left it be thinking it would work.. as it did
but once in a while it will restart, and i havent found a pattern of what im doing, it's pretty random.

so i reinstalled XP thinking it would fix the problem, and that it's prolly a driver issue.

it restarted itself when i started up CS for the first time after reinstalling it.. so i'm posting to see why a comp might randomly restart.. could it be overheating of something? driver issues? hrm? heheh

[edit] i think it's happening more frequently now.. but i think it happens only when i'm using the internet somehow.. with IE, CS or kazaa but i'm not sure that's it [/edit]

i'm not sure what the temps are like, the only thing that gives me temp is my bios and that's just for the cpu..

i have a super flower case with 6 fans, 120mm blowhole and an 80mm blowing on the vid card, GF2 400MX.. i have an xp1900+ with a new Tt fan and i'm pretty sure that's not overheating.. although i did set it up to shutdown if it gets to 175F but i don't think it would restart would it?

[edit] also i have a 520 watt power supply with 3 fans, if it's faulty could that be causing the restarts? [/edit]

Yeah, if it's not providing enough power to something that needs it that could cause it. From the sound of your computer I doubt anything is overheating. It would be a pain, but do you have another power source lying around that you could switch to for a bit? Would be worth a try.

Also, I know you reinstalled Windows, but if you change your motherboard, you're always going to want a plan a format. Unless you like your computer a little slower than it should be. :D

ok ok i turned off the 'auto restart' feature in system/advanced and i get a BSOD now, it says something happened and you need to restart pretty much, then it gives some sort of address in the stop message.. so is it drivers? bad hardware? whaddayathink?

I would guess that would be a memory address... but I've no clue beyond that

the latest time the blue screen of death told me that the problem appears to be caused by win32k.sys .. i searched and it's in the system32 folder in the windows folder.. does anyone know what that file does and if i could replace it with one from another comp with XP?

[edit] I downloaded the latest chipset/audio drivers and it ran for a long time.. i thought it was fixed and then it went BSOD lol, it said this time: IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

and didnt say anything about any files =P

I looked in the bios and there are no IRQ's in conflict :\ [/edit]

I'm getting the same kind of error crash message as you (IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL), I posted a topic on it but I forgot the name of it.:)

Wow - the change in the stats are major. I kind of knew it was all bots but wow, to see the effect. Why the social media sites cant do something like this I have no idea.
  • Ghan Ghan:
Probably inflates their numbers so they look better to advertisers.
  • The Helper The Helper:
Yeah google does not filter those bots. I remember when Apex was doing Google ads I saw the same IPs in there as I was seeing here - google is totally tracking all those bots as traffic and most google traffic, at least ours, was all bots

We are now on Ubuntu 24.04. Had some issues with the style after the OS/PHP upgrade but now resolved.

Weekend went by too fast. Next weekend I am going to try to do a nature thing - buddy of mine lives by the Colorado river and has some kayaks and invited me to do some kayaking from a place he knows to get on the river.
  • Ghan Ghan:
    That sounds like an adventure.
  • The Helper The Helper:
400 users all online all looking at latest content
  • The Helper The Helper:
I wonder how all these bots that sit on the lastest content page get passed anubis or maybe they did not but they are just registering on whos online
  • The Helper The Helper:
showing up on whos online not registration
  • Ghan Ghan:
The first gate is stopping all the bots that don't execute javascript.
  • Ghan Ghan:
That's the main thing with Anubis - no Javascript, no site. Typically you can still get the site to load without Javascript.
  • The Helper The Helper:
I remember the whole javascript thing, question - how many real people disable that?
  • The Helper The Helper:
Hell I guess I could go back on the stats to know that - we probably capture that and we know the before and after
  • Ghan Ghan:
Real users can't really disable Javascript anymore these days.
  • Ghan Ghan:
The internet is broken without it.
  • Ghan Ghan:
    Bot readable, not human usable.
  • The Helper The Helper:
    got it

    Happy Thursday!
