just read something (think conan wrote it as a reply to something) and it gave me an idea. not sure how often it's done, but would it be a good idea to have a trigger to spawn some random doodads of a specified type in specified rects? That way, each time you played a map, the landscape would be slightly different.

ok, so it can't be done with plain doodads, but it can be done with destructibles. create a custom destructible, have the placement code, make last created destructible invulnerable.

but anyways, I guess what I'm asking is if this is a good idea to impliment in a map

why have people recently been saying "rect" instead of region?

For randomness in triggers, such as random spawns, etc., I always set an integeger variable to a random number between 2 others and then do an if/then/else for each of them I want to do. Haven't really looked into a less-time consuming way, but I may.

yeah, that's what I do too... this sorta idea could be used for random quests also...but that would be much much more complicated... I dunno if that would even be worth it on a 6 person coop sorta rpg game

oh oh oh, another idea to alleviate the initialization lag time. since in most maps, some sections are not initially viewable and therefore don't need the extra stuff, find other places that, if a person enters them, the objects for an area that they will soon access will be created. ya think that would lag bad?

it would probably be better to have it initialized at the beginning instead of having dynamic initializations when ppl go around the map(would probably lag too much)

its interesting idea though.. maybe i should steal it.. hehehe ;)
jooz kidding hope u make a map outta this :) (would love to see it)

Guys just a heads up I am going to be shutting the site down soon. I am just waiting on the NUON people to decide whether they want to transfer forum data and keep the discord. My email is [email protected] for anyone that wants to keep in touch and I have a facebook too. I will make an official post later. Love you guys and will miss everyone!

Oh no - please don't lose the Nuon content

  • The Helper The Helper:
Someone email AtariAge and see if they want me to transfer the forum data over to it
  • Ghan Ghan:
Could probably keep NUON stuff around here if we wanted.
  • Ghan Ghan:
Hmm what to do about the World Editor site though?
  • Stephen Stephen:
I'd rather personally just own a backup of the Nuon data than see it go to AtariAge honestly. If it gets enshittified as per usual, or if some of the "regular" Jaguar folks get there, it's not gonna be fun
  • The Helper The Helper:
There will be a github of the forum data so the NUON Forum Data I guess would be available there
  • The Helper The Helper:
World Editor is technically Ryoko stuff not mine you guys can keep that I am not in that even
  • jonas jonas:
:( end of an era :(
  • The Helper The Helper:
Dont think of it as an end jonas - think of it as a beginning, because really my friend that is what it is.
