Guess I have a soft spot for Merlin. I like Tetris but NUON could have done so much more than a Tetris port with a black background.

My top is IS 3 and number 2 is Merlin Racing then Ballistic

I never liked Tempest 3000 simply because I thought the VLM in the background was distracting. I want to see my enemies. Tempest 2000 Rocks though!

Yea some people like 2000 better than 3000...3000 was a tad overkill with the screen clutter, plus insanely difficult and frustrating. I love the soundtrack tho

<3 T3K and IS3 is a great improvement in the franchise. Wish they'd bring it back. FreeFall is balls hard but lots of fun if you stick with it.

Yeah Freefall is a sweet game, it just takes a while to get used to the controls and gameplay style.

Is it just me or is every game for NUON hard as hell...

Oh yeah, and there is a new Tempest game...Tempest Evolved for X-Box 360. It's a DLC title. It's ok but not quite as exciting as Tempest 2000 or 3000. No belting techno soundtrack. But it does include an authentic port of the original Tempest arcade game, finally all these years later.

I took another look at Space Invaders, and realized it had music from Darius 1, 2, Gaiden, Metal Black, Syvalion and tons of other Taito games. Wow I never knew this. I guess it's not a terrible port, just terribly average if anything. Since Taito only made one game for NUON, I wish it was G-Darius or maybe even Gaiden, ah well. NUON would have had no problem with G-Darius.

Freefall is an innovative game, and the only NUON game that is totally 100% original and not a sequel or port of an existing game. It makes the Nuon's hardware look like a million bucks, wish I didn't suck so bad at it! I guess I just never got used to the gameplay style.

The Tempest evolved for 360 is shit. If you want the upgrade to Tempest 2000/3000, get Space Giraffe. That was Minter's first (and only) title for the 360, unless you consider his Neon light synth which comes up when playing audio CDs.

I downloaded Space Giraffe, it is DEFINITELY Tempest, with a few modifications of course to prevent copyright infringement issues. Looks and plays alot more lively than Evolved.

T3k and Merlin Racing are so closely tied ... I probably play MR more often, but enjoy the experience of T3k more (playing on my 55" PDP with the volume cranked and lights off ... aw yeah).

I can't honestly say that I've spent enough time with IS3 to have a fully educated opinion, so it could end up ranking higher once I give it a proper day in court.

Strangely, the game on this list that currently gets the most play is Space Invaders, but only because it's a game that I can actually play with my 3yo son: he rapid-fires the trigger while I move the turret around. Two-player cooperative, vintage-style!
