Eating rats is the best way for rich and poor people to solve the global crisis of rising food prices, an Indian official said Wednesday as he unveiled his plan to put rodents on menus.

Regular rat snacks would translate into fewer rodents eating precious grain stocks -- 50 percent of which are lost in the northeastern state of Bihar every year to the animals, said Vijay Prakash, secretary of the state's welfare department.

"This will help in mitigating the global food crisis. We are sure that it will work wonders," Prakash told AFP. "It will save half our grain, and will also reduce villagers' dependence on food stock."

Prakash's plan promotes consumption of rat meat in homes, street stalls, restaurants and even international five-star hotels.

If it tastes good, and I eventually get over the fact that I'm eating a rat (or don't know), sure. Oh, also if it's healthy.

To be honest I could eat anything as long as A) it tastes nice and B) it has a good texture*. And I'm something of a carnivore so it would just be another kind of meat to try :)

*And that is obviously SAFE to eat :p

If people don't eat pigs because they are 'dirty' and eat the leftovers of other animals, I really don't think they'll be eating rats anytime soon. Especially if they 'figure out' that their religion told them not to.

I thought people in china already ate rats.
(not trying to be racist, cause it sounds nasty and insulting, but that's what I thought)

There are lots of people who eat 'dirty' animals, and lots who do not. Just because a religion says they can't doesn't mean that no one will.

I don't know how I'd be if this actually became something controversial. I'd probably ignore it. :p

Well ~20% of the world is Muslim, and they aren't allowed to eat pork. And I'd think at least 90% of that 20% adhere to that rule, based on what I've seen.

I wouldn't eat rats to help starving people because they are out of my monkeysphere. >:]

Catholics aren't allowed to eat meat on Fridays. It was for a specific reasons and duration, which I forgot.

If i wasn't American the situation would probably be different, but because i've grown up with such a spoiled diet the concept of eating a rodent would be objectionable at the very least.

Which leaves ~80% of the world?

I think it would work better if starving people ate rats. :p

How can you tell the difference between real traffic and indexing or AI generation bots?
  • The Helper The Helper:
The bots will show up as users online in the forum software but they do not show up in my stats tracking. I am sure there are bots in the stats but the way alot of the bots treat the site do not show up on the stats
  • Varine Varine:
I want to build a filtration system for my 3d printer, and that shit is so much more complicated than I thought it would be
  • Varine Varine:
Apparently ABS emits styrene particulates which can be like .2 micrometers, which idk if the VOC detectors I have can even catch that
  • Varine Varine:
Anyway I need to get some of those sensors and two air pressure sensors installed before an after the filters, which I need to figure out how to calculate the necessary pressure for and I have yet to find anything that tells me how to actually do that, just the cfm ratings
  • Varine Varine:
And then I have to set up an arduino board to read those sensors, which I also don't know very much about but I have a whole bunch of crash course things for that
  • Varine Varine:
These sensors are also a lot more than I thought they would be. Like 5 to 10 each, idk why but I assumed they would be like 2 dollars
  • Varine Varine:
Another issue I'm learning is that a lot of the air quality sensors don't work at very high ambient temperatures. I'm planning on heating this enclosure to like 60C or so, and that's the upper limit of their functionality
  • Varine Varine:
Although I don't know if I need to actually actively heat it or just let the plate and hotend bring the ambient temp to whatever it will, but even then I need to figure out an exfiltration for hot air. I think I kind of know what to do but it's still fucking confusing
  • The Helper The Helper:
Maybe you could find some of that information from AC tech - like how they detect freon and such
  • Varine Varine:
That's mostly what I've been looking at
  • Varine Varine:
I don't think I'm dealing with quite the same pressures though, at the very least its a significantly smaller system. For the time being I'm just going to put together a quick scrubby box though and hope it works good enough to not make my house toxic
  • Varine Varine:
I mean I don't use this enough to pose any significant danger I don't think, but I would still rather not be throwing styrene all over the air

I bitch about Xenforo sometimes but it really is full featured you just have to really know what you are doing to get the most out of it.
  • The Helper The Helper:
It is just not easy to fix styles and customize but it definitely can be done
  • The Helper The Helper:
I do know this - xenforo dropped the ball by not keeping the vbulletin reputation comments as a feature. The loss of the Reputation comments data when we switched to Xenforo really was the death knell for the site when it came to all the users that left. I know I missed it so much and I got way less interested in the site when that feature was gone and I run the site.
