As you noticed alot of problems occured with the battlenet servers.
This willbe fixed (speaking from expierence)

Rumors for the problem are

Someone tripped over a wire and they dunno how to plug the cable back in .
Aliens
Sloppy network programming
Blizz forgot to pay the bills
Aliens
New patches
Expansion of servers to prepare for a massive stress test for WC3 .

You forgot two of the most obvious ones

1. Everyone at Blizzard is at the E3 convention and they is no one home minding the store.

2. Artificial life forms have taken over Blizzard. (hmm Aliens may have covered this)

unavailable from 1:30 P.M. PST (UTC -8) on Friday, May 24th 2002
until as late as 6:30 P.M. PST. During this time, the Battle.net
