Recommended Languages for Web Development

Hi all,

In the past, I had learnt a variety of languages (HTML, PHP, ASP.NET, python, java, mySQL), but I only learnt them as one language by themselves and not combining them together.

Currently, I am working on a website project that holds a database of school modules and allows users to write/view comments. Something like a forum. This gives students better understanding of the courses they would be taking.

Sounds like a big project for beginner like me as I have not created a real website before, so I would like to hear your suggestions (advantages and disadvantages) on which language combination would be of best choice for such a project.

This is what I know for now:
1)ASP.NET (Visual Studio) + SQL (Stored procedure)
2)Java + HTML + SQL
3)Other suggestions?

Please correct me if I used any wrong terms ;)
Thank you

Why don't you use an out-of-the-box solution like phpBB?

Magnetix is right: people develop tools like these for the common tasks, such as the one you are trying to accomplish.

You're probably best off picking your favorite forum system, and modifying it to fit the specific needs of your website.
