Rotating the camera around a unit/point?

Hello guys,

I have been working on a machinima and I need to script a Camera system to record a lot of clips.

The problem is the fact that,

It seems the camera Rotation ranges from -180 to 180.

My logic to the problem was :

Event : Every 0.01 seconds

Actions :

- Camera - Set Rotation of "Cam1" to ((Rotation of Cam1) + (10.0))
- Camera - Apply camera object Rotation (Cam1 Rotation) for player 1 over 0.0 seconds with Existing Velocity% initial velocity and 10% deceleration

But this simply doesnt rotate. Instead it occilates between 3 angles, 90, -90 and 180.
I dont know whats going on. :S

I had been able to make it work using a variable that used to act as
the angle for rotation and increasing the Value of the variable.

But... I want this to work on any camera, fetch the current rotation angle of the camera and then turn the camera by adding more rotation.

Any body know how to do it?

Also, is it possible to obtain the position of the camera in the trigger editor?

over 0.0 seconds

Change this to a number of seccond and it will no longer jump.
I also suggest you stop using 0.01 seconds, which means the camera will move 100 times a second, far faster than you are planning for.
Also once it gets to 180 it's reached the maximum rotation, so it will stop rotating. You would need to reset it to -180 to begin again.

OK....

I tried that, but it didnt give me any results.

I have attached a map showing this problem, Can anybody please have a look at this?
Here's what did in my triggers :

Code:
Set Camera
    Events
        Game - Map initialization
    Local Variables
    Conditions
    Actions
Camera - Apply Camera 001 for player 1 over 0.0 seconds with Existing Velocity% initial velocity, 10% deceleration, and Include Target

Code:
Rotation
    Events
Timer - Every 1.0 seconds of Game Time
    Local Variables
    Conditions
    Actions
        Camera - Set Camera 001 Rotation to ((Camera 001 Rotation) + 15.0)
Camera - Apply camera object Rotation (Camera 001 Rotation) for player 1 over 1.0 seconds with Existing Velocity% initial velocity and 10% deceleration
Debug - Display (Combine ("The Rotation for Camera001 is ", (Text((Camera 001 Rotation)) with Any Precision decimal places))) as debug output using Type 1, and Do display it in the game window

Help? :(

Use a variable to hold the rotation. Like this:

Yes... I have already done that and it works perfectly.

But that reduces the scalability of a system (esp if I have a lot of cams) if you have to predefine everything with variables. Isn't there a way to do it without variables?
Just setting the rotation of the cam everytime and then reading its angle from the cam properties?

Thanks for the help man :)

I believe there is a trigger called Get Camera Yaw, which returns the rotation of the current camera of the player in degrees. Is this what you need?

NOTE: Yaw means the rotation in the Z (upward) axis.

P.S. If you want the rotation of the camera in the XY (horizontal plane), there is another trigger called Get Camera Pitch.

Where can I find the "Get Camera Pitch"?

Sorry for such a late reply... I was ill. :(
I desperately need to find these to work any further on my camera system. I have attached a map that shows the problems i detection/difference in between the rotation and the yaw of the camera.

I've edited your map; take a look. You can make the camera rotate around the Ultralisk you placed by pressing the WASD keys. Also take a look at the triggers I've added, it should be independent of any variables and just based on the current view of the player.

Thanks a lot kind sir, sorry for checking it out late... I had left this thread for dead :p
I use a similar approach for my upcoming Free Camera system that I was working on all these days. It looks pretty well...
I shall be uploading it soon as soon as I have all the features I had planned for the first version.

Thanks again for your help :)

The bots will show up as users online in the forum software but they do not show up in my stats tracking. I am sure there are bots in the stats but the way alot of the bots treat the site do not show up on the stats

I want to build a filtration system for my 3d printer, and that shit is so much more complicated than I thought it would be
  • Varine Varine:
Apparently ABS emits styrene particulates which can be like .2 micrometers, which idk if the VOC detectors I have can even catch that
  • Varine Varine:
Anyway I need to get some of those sensors and two air pressure sensors installed before an after the filters, which I need to figure out how to calculate the necessary pressure for and I have yet to find anything that tells me how to actually do that, just the cfm ratings
  • Varine Varine:
And then I have to set up an arduino board to read those sensors, which I also don't know very much about but I have a whole bunch of crash course things for that
  • Varine Varine:
These sensors are also a lot more than I thought they would be. Like 5 to 10 each, idk why but I assumed they would be like 2 dollars
  • Varine Varine:
Another issue I'm learning is that a lot of the air quality sensors don't work at very high ambient temperatures. I'm planning on heating this enclosure to like 60C or so, and that's the upper limit of their functionality
  • Varine Varine:
Although I don't know if I need to actually actively heat it or just let the plate and hotend bring the ambient temp to whatever it will, but even then I need to figure out an exfiltration for hot air. I think I kind of know what to do but it's still fucking confusing
  • The Helper The Helper:
Maybe you could find some of that information from AC tech - like how they detect freon and such
  • Varine Varine:
That's mostly what I've been looking at

I don't think I'm dealing with quite the same pressures though, at the very least its a significantly smaller system. For the time being I'm just going to put together a quick scrubby box though and hope it works good enough to not make my house toxic
  • Varine Varine:
I mean I don't use this enough to pose any significant danger I don't think, but I would still rather not be throwing styrene all over the air

I bitch about Xenforo sometimes but it really is full featured you just have to really know what you are doing to get the most out of it.

I do know this - xenforo dropped the ball by not keeping the vbulletin reputation comments as a feature. The loss of the Reputation comments data when we switched to Xenforo really was the death knell for the site when it came to all the users that left. I know I missed it so much and I got way less interested in the site when that feature was gone and I run the site.
