 hi! im new to the world editor and i was wondering if anyone could tell me how to make a rpg.

I be makin one too. what parts of turning WC3 into an RPG are confuzzlin to ya in particular?

You guys have come to the right place - however, my advice would be when you ask questions here try to be more specific. Rather than asking how do I make an RPG start your map and when you run into problems ask specific questions pertaining to what you are doing at the time. You are going to get much better advice on specific questions than asking huge general questions, of course that is just my opinion as others might want to post a tutorial or something (hint) :)

ok. thx :) well i need to learn how to make triggers, heros, and how to program all that stuff like making a warpgate thing make u into a hero. :D

triggers are the heart and soul of a good map. I suggest u play around with them and learn their power before you start on a big main project.

ok. how do i know what each one does? and how do i play around with them?

you should open blizzard maps in your warcraft3\maps\scernario folder.

Play the maps, then look through the triggers and object editor. Try to match what is happening in the game with what is happening in the editor.

map names:

warchasers
the death sheep
monolith (Frozen Throne map)

you should also look at the editor help documentation to find out what the various editor features do. You can access the documentation from the editor help menu.

yeah, that helps too. I found out what most did by just looking at them and their options then trying to get 'em to do what I wanted... u gotta understand programming logic though.

yes adjl is correct, to use the trigger editor you need to understand something about programming. This tool is by no means for everyone.

Just like I would never have the knowledge to work at NASA straight out of school, I would not be confident using the editor unless I had learned some programming skills first.

monkey , darg and adjl are right... everyone wants to start their first map an good rpg indeed, that was my ideea to when i got TFT but... you simply cant understand almost nothing if you dont look in other maps, play with the triggers and the object editor. Thats how i did, i started making maps 3 weeks ago, i made a map, it was not very cool but it worked then i amde another one cooler but not too cool so i didnt launch them on sites and battlenet but then, after making 2-3 maps and tinkering i simply got a light in my brain. i can understand a big part of triggers so they are easy if you TRY to learn them

Yea, this might sound silly but I've realized that making complicated maps in Warcraft III has helped a bunch with my programming. I suggest for you now is to look through the different triggers and study them for a little bit and maybe use them in a simple little map. Once you learn how to use the triggers and learn what they do, you'll start answering your own questions. Triggfers aren't alot of remembering what they do but figuring out how to use them correctly and conjunction with other trigger actions and variables.

Guys just a heads up I am going to be shutting the site down soon. I am just waiting on the NUON people to decide whether they want to transfer forum data and keep the discord. My email is [email protected] for anyone that wants to keep in touch and I have a facebook too. I will make an official post later. Love you guys and will miss everyone!

Oh no - please don't lose the Nuon content

  • The Helper The Helper:
Someone email AtariAge and see if they want me to transfer the forum data over to it
  • Ghan Ghan:
Could probably keep NUON stuff around here if we wanted.
  • Ghan Ghan:
Hmm what to do about the World Editor site though?
  • Stephen Stephen:
I'd rather personally just own a backup of the Nuon data than see it go to AtariAge honestly. If it gets enshittified as per usual, or if some of the "regular" Jaguar folks get there, it's not gonna be fun
  • The Helper The Helper:
There will be a github of the forum data so the NUON Forum Data I guess would be available there
  • The Helper The Helper:
World Editor is technically Ryoko stuff not mine you guys can keep that I am not in that even
  • jonas jonas:
:( end of an era :(
  • The Helper The Helper:
Dont think of it as an end jonas - think of it as a beginning, because really my friend that is what it is.
  • A Andyoyo:
Thank you for the hard work over the years. It did not go unnoticed.
