Samsung N501 is unresponsive

Hi there,

My Samsung N501 is experiencing technical difficulties. It will turn on, it displays the Samsung logo on my TV, and the display on the unit reads "LOAD", but that's it. The only button on the unit that seems to work is the power button. Same for the remote control.

I took off the top to see if maybe the disc that is in there is stuck, but I don't really see a way to free the disc without causing some irreversible damage to the unit.

Does anyone have any tips to bring this unit back to life? Or any tips on how to physically remove the disc inside without destroying the player? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Might be the disc reading laser. Try different discs including just regular DVDs.

i got a dvdn2000 that won't read anything. sucks. One of my 500s is dead as well. Got 3 nuon's 1 works

I am pretty sure there is nothing wrong with your NUON chips. It is likely the CD drives that are the culprit.

think I am gonna buy a dvdm101 and open it up see if it will work.

So, found service manuals and downloaded for both samsung dvdn501 and dvdm101, parts list on the drive look identical, the service manual for the dvdm101, also seems to work for the 104 and the 105 which according to the thread in here about compatible drives work in the dvdn501. All signs pointing to the dvdm101 being compatible. Gonna buy one, try to make it work, if it does, gonna buy more. They seem more available to me than the m104 and m105.

me and my son decided we liked the black cover on the Nuon player better, so we put it on there. Kept the Original

Call eStarland in Chantilly Va.They have mine now to be repaired.Ask for Sam in customer service.He may be able to help you.

BTW,They just repaired two 3DO FZ-1 machines for me.Also they are repairing a Sega Saturn for me as well.

Update:They received a donor player and swap the laser.Said it now works perfectly with dvd or game.Just received the e-mail today.

They didn't say but i mentioned the m-101 ahead of time.I would imagine they got it off of e-bay.I don't know anywhere else they would have bought it.I took out my other one tonightOlder one) and played a lot of cd's(VLM) and then played Tempest 3000 for quite awhile but it won't play dvd's,doesn't make much sense,it won't load them,says no disc.I have had the laser cleaned once but it might be on it's way out.

dang, sorry to hear there is a problem. Could be just a pot settting on spin rate or something?

..and i have other issues:the on/off switch,it shuts off as soon as i turn it on and the tray closes with no warning when it is suppose to be open.Maybe you could do me a favor.I think you said you had both parts list for N-501 and m-101.If you do,could you check and see if the switch in both units are the same part,i would appreciate it.I sent the unit to eStarland yesterday and if they are the same they could get it from the donor they used to swap out the drive.
