sc-brood war bnet game problem

I have no problem entering bnet or joining their games, but whenever I am in a game, after a certain period of time (it varies), i would see all other players drop out all together at the same time. I've been playing this game for over 3 yrs so I know that whenever a person disconnects there would be a window popping up listing the players who disc and asking to drop them or not. For my case, I would be playing and playing, and all of a sudden without any notification, I would see EVERY player drop out all together. Then I would end up with a disconnect, and gets me back to the channel where I was at. This happens to me EVERYTIME I play now. The period of time I am in a game before all players drop out varies, sometimes 5min, sometimes 10min, sometimes 20 min.

I am using AMD Athlon processor with Windows XP. Before I was using Windows 2000 but then there was this same problem so I tried switching to XP. I tried disabling the firewall, and same problem still occurs. I have both starcraft and brood war installed, and I play brood war only.

Im using dsl connection, with adapter on the outlet, and 1 line connecting adapter to the phone (with a filter), and the other line connecting directly to my dsl modem.

I hope someone can help me fix this problem asap because I am a super big time brood war fan...thanks! =)

Switching from Windows 2000 to Windows XP would not help. Windows XP is Windows 2000 if you look at it under the updated drivers, features and look.

I suggest you visit the Windows Update Site and download the compatibility update.

Are you running any firewall or anti-virus ? Do you have the idle time disconnect feature on ? What interface do you use ? PPPoE ? RASPPPoE ?

i don't have anti virus software installed in this comp, and i have tried taking off firewall. I am using PPPoE for connection.

I have updated my windows xp thru auto device....also downloaded security packs and new drivers for network, video, and sound from update site...still same problem..

where can i find the compatabilty update u mentioned? are u sure that's the problem?

i went to the link above and read the post but then i don't understand how that works for xp.

my dsl provider told me before i installed my network that to obtain ip address automatically and dns automatically...

would that be the source of my problem in brood war? it appears to me when i check the detail of my connection that everytime i connect...the client IP address is always different...

Well since you are using XP go in network connections and right-click then properties on your Network Card. The rest should be the same as 98.

i did read the post you wrote Baseballcap, but then i don't think i can input in a spefic ip address or dns server IP because i am not given one from my dsl provider, they just told me to obtain those automatically

I have the same problem. I went on today and all of a sudden all players were droped with out the box comming up. its happend to me a couple of times today already. I am using Windows Me with dialup. I've never had this problem in all the years i've played starcraft.

Did this problem start once you installed Windows ME ?

No the problem didn't start when I instaled windows ME. I got this computer about 2 years ago and have played starcraft on it so no i dont think its ME that is the problem. Any other sudgestions?

What the post I gave you is for is to set the IP for the actual Modem, it is not your IP address, it just tells your computer where the modem is, and can really help a DSL connection.

I didnt install any programs.
It only started happening 2 days ago.

It sounds to me like an ISP problem. More specifically it sounds like your ISP is overloaded or has some routing problems. You would not notice this on the web but in online games if you have random connection slowdowns due to an ISP problem you get disconnected like this. I think you can test this by using some of the broadband connection tools on the internet, a good tool would be one that tries to transfer information over a designated period of time to measure packet loss and/or connection problems. I don't know of a tool that measures this but that does not mean one does not exist. It just means I am not as up to date on connection testing programs as I used to be.
