So wait... you'll have to pay for every map that the mapper makes? so for example, we pay for coolmap v1.0, then an update is made because of some annoying bug, so we'll have to pay again for v1.1 @@
and if we dont have to pay for the updated map, then people who bought the first map will be angry because others got the updated map for free

...am i making sense?

It'll probably allow you to download the updated map for free if you have previous versions.

Well i dont think we have to worry about Dota being the dominate game, since other gaming companies have already make copys of dota, Heroes of Newrth and (this one is pretty nice), league of Ledgends and ofcourse some people will stick with Wc3 Dota:thup:

Great. So little kids like me cannot play fancy maps as little kids like me do not have online payment thingy yet. At least, I expect it to be like that.

Paying for maps is stupid :(

This really isn't that big of a deal. People are not going to pay for some random map they never heard of. Modders can charge for their maps, but don't expect anyone of play them.

The map would have to reach a level of popularity of dota or maybe 1 or 2 other maps out there for war3 before the maker should even consider turning it premium if they expect people to still play.

No way, if a map got popular, like dota, frauds will occur. Like ex, "hey dude, you wan't to have this popular map? it will be 50$". guy2 "OMFG HERE YOU GO, HAVE MY MONEY". Then after, that, the guy 1 doesn't give the map, then guy2 said "NOOOOO!!"(suicide)

and, when a premium map is created, and players will join, they will get the map easily and no pay. :) or maybe you cannot join a premium map that you don't have. hmm

I bet DotA will not have a chance in SC2.
Seriously, it is pretty much the least original you can find on bnet.

I don't think many people would make their maps premium.
No one would buy it and people would just make free versions etc.

Excitiong to see how they would lock it though...

Dota obviously will be on b.net. Some ones gonna make it and I think blizzard is going to think of a way to settle the prices and stuff. They said people can charge 10 000 dollars but they said that people are allowed to like rate or something so that the price isn't high. Also, most maps really are only going to be like 1 dollar or so. Cause I doubt anyone's going to want to buy maps for 10 dollars. Thats just too much.

When will this thread die! lmao

To summarize:

1. Not every map can simply be set to premium by wish of the maker, must have a fair amount of popularity and be examined by blizzard.
2. Fairly sure map makers with some sort of brain, will set the map purchase fee to around a +-1$. (If they themselves can set the price, not too sure)
3. Dota will be present in SC2 I believe (Unfortunately), premium or not we don't know.
4. Before a map becomes premium, you will most likely play free older versions across b-net, and you can decide whether or not you like the game to purchase it.
5. Pretty damn sure fraud is impossible, premium maps have been examined by blizzard, and are downloaded from the blizzard server, not peer2peer I believe.
6. Any map considered premium is expected to be it's own game within a game. First person shooters, massive RPG's scaling several maps, a custom turn based strategy game with class levels, city building, or generally a map with a suprising amount of effort is is the grounds for becoming premium.

Again these premium maps are supposed to be a game within a game, and I think if blizzard does it's job examining these maps and determining which ones are worth premium status, then I think absolutely it will add to the longevity of starcraft2, and be the cause of some truly amazing maps.

I wouldn't mind paying 2 bucks for a custom SC2 RPG that may have 10+ hours of gameplay, interesting storyline, cool items and spells.

How can you tell the difference between real traffic and indexing or AI generation bots?
  • The Helper The Helper:
The bots will show up as users online in the forum software but they do not show up in my stats tracking. I am sure there are bots in the stats but the way alot of the bots treat the site do not show up on the stats
  • Varine Varine:
I want to build a filtration system for my 3d printer, and that shit is so much more complicated than I thought it would be
  • Varine Varine:
Apparently ABS emits styrene particulates which can be like .2 micrometers, which idk if the VOC detectors I have can even catch that
  • Varine Varine:
Anyway I need to get some of those sensors and two air pressure sensors installed before an after the filters, which I need to figure out how to calculate the necessary pressure for and I have yet to find anything that tells me how to actually do that, just the cfm ratings
  • Varine Varine:
And then I have to set up an arduino board to read those sensors, which I also don't know very much about but I have a whole bunch of crash course things for that
  • Varine Varine:
These sensors are also a lot more than I thought they would be. Like 5 to 10 each, idk why but I assumed they would be like 2 dollars
  • Varine Varine:
Another issue I'm learning is that a lot of the air quality sensors don't work at very high ambient temperatures. I'm planning on heating this enclosure to like 60C or so, and that's the upper limit of their functionality
  • Varine Varine:
Although I don't know if I need to actually actively heat it or just let the plate and hotend bring the ambient temp to whatever it will, but even then I need to figure out an exfiltration for hot air. I think I kind of know what to do but it's still fucking confusing
  • The Helper The Helper:
Maybe you could find some of that information from AC tech - like how they detect freon and such
  • Varine Varine:
That's mostly what I've been looking at
  • Varine Varine:
I don't think I'm dealing with quite the same pressures though, at the very least its a significantly smaller system. For the time being I'm just going to put together a quick scrubby box though and hope it works good enough to not make my house toxic
  • Varine Varine:
I mean I don't use this enough to pose any significant danger I don't think, but I would still rather not be throwing styrene all over the air

I bitch about Xenforo sometimes but it really is full featured you just have to really know what you are doing to get the most out of it.
  • The Helper The Helper:
It is just not easy to fix styles and customize but it definitely can be done
  • The Helper The Helper:
I do know this - xenforo dropped the ball by not keeping the vbulletin reputation comments as a feature. The loss of the Reputation comments data when we switched to Xenforo really was the death knell for the site when it came to all the users that left. I know I missed it so much and I got way less interested in the site when that feature was gone and I run the site.
