I use socks2http to bypass my school's firewall but its much slower than its supposed to be. I get a maximum of 30-40 kbps and I know that it shoul dbe capable of over 100.
socks2http is a program that sits on my computer that lets other programs (ie. KazaA, AIM, IE) or anything that the school blocks connect to it and tunnel their requests through a remote server.
for instance with kazaa I go to socks5 proxy settings and I put in host: 127.0.0.1 Port: 1080
this makes kazaa connect to the program on my computer
the program takes the information and sends it to a remote server that I have to pay to access through port 80
the average ping on this server is <35 so I don't know why I can only get 30-40kbps
If anyone is familiar with socks2http please gimme some info, I appreciate it!
