SD Drive Device for NUON - is it possible?

Without an good emulator on a CD based system and no way to get a NUON Dev kit in order for anyone to be able to do serious coding on the system would be to have some kind of SD device hooked up to a NUON of the N501 type.

Is this even possible on the NUON?

What kind of device controller chip does it have in it? Proprietary? Does the SDK say anything about it?

There is no cartridge port on any of the NUON devices but there is a CD Interface cable connection....

yea, would need an adapter to go from ide or sata to whatever kind of connector that is inside the dvd player. I think i have a multicard reader in my desktop, I am pretty sure is ide, but having a hard time figuring out of that could be adapted to a dvd player

You would think that if they can do it on an Atari ST, Commodore 64, Atari Jaguar and other stuff that it would be possible on NUON. I just do not think a cable converter will do it.

I just read on the NUON Wikipedia page and it says that optional hard drive is supported
  • 64~256 MB writable rom and optional hard drive (up to 137 GB)
  • Optical drive support DVD or CD-R

is that through the controller port? what kind of connector is that on the controller ports?

There was talk BITD about using the controller port to upload software, similar to how BJL worked on the Jaguar. The controller port is proprietary, using the Polyface chip mentioned which is needed for the controllers. As far as I know, no work was ever done on making such a device, just people like me trying to code on the N501 begging for a better solution that writing to CDs to test.

so, would the polyface chip be needed to route a hdd through the port?

  • The Helper The Helper:
The bots will show up as users online in the forum software but they do not show up in my stats tracking. I am sure there are bots in the stats but the way alot of the bots treat the site do not show up on the stats
  • Varine Varine:
I want to build a filtration system for my 3d printer, and that shit is so much more complicated than I thought it would be
  • Varine Varine:
Apparently ABS emits styrene particulates which can be like .2 micrometers, which idk if the VOC detectors I have can even catch that
  • Varine Varine:
Anyway I need to get some of those sensors and two air pressure sensors installed before an after the filters, which I need to figure out how to calculate the necessary pressure for and I have yet to find anything that tells me how to actually do that, just the cfm ratings
  • Varine Varine:
And then I have to set up an arduino board to read those sensors, which I also don't know very much about but I have a whole bunch of crash course things for that
  • Varine Varine:
These sensors are also a lot more than I thought they would be. Like 5 to 10 each, idk why but I assumed they would be like 2 dollars
  • Varine Varine:
Another issue I'm learning is that a lot of the air quality sensors don't work at very high ambient temperatures. I'm planning on heating this enclosure to like 60C or so, and that's the upper limit of their functionality
  • Varine Varine:
Although I don't know if I need to actually actively heat it or just let the plate and hotend bring the ambient temp to whatever it will, but even then I need to figure out an exfiltration for hot air. I think I kind of know what to do but it's still fucking confusing
  • The Helper The Helper:
Maybe you could find some of that information from AC tech - like how they detect freon and such
  • Varine Varine:
That's mostly what I've been looking at
  • Varine Varine:
I don't think I'm dealing with quite the same pressures though, at the very least its a significantly smaller system. For the time being I'm just going to put together a quick scrubby box though and hope it works good enough to not make my house toxic
  • Varine Varine:
I mean I don't use this enough to pose any significant danger I don't think, but I would still rather not be throwing styrene all over the air

I bitch about Xenforo sometimes but it really is full featured you just have to really know what you are doing to get the most out of it.
  • The Helper The Helper:
It is just not easy to fix styles and customize but it definitely can be done
  • The Helper The Helper:
I do know this - xenforo dropped the ball by not keeping the vbulletin reputation comments as a feature. The loss of the Reputation comments data when we switched to Xenforo really was the death knell for the site when it came to all the users that left. I know I missed it so much and I got way less interested in the site when that feature was gone and I run the site.
