Service Pack 2

I was wondering how much of a dirrefence Service Pack 2 makes on windows, instead of running Windows out of the box with no updates.

My computer has windows installed but whenever I try to authenticate to download updates it says the CD-KEy is invalid.

I never even installed windows, The store that I bought my computer did. (The store does not exist anymore)

How crutial is service pack 2?

Huge security update...also your going to need SP2 to get any updates soon I believe correct me if im wrong.

tho i have a feeling that you have not a legit copy of windows xp ..

The problem is I don't have a box or the software. It just came installed.

Sounds like you got ripped off by that store. Anyway, it really is a major change from SP1. You should resolve the problem with your invalid license as soon as possible and get SP2.

I believe Microsoft is offering a deal where they give you a discount if you prove that you attempted to buy a valid copy of Windows in good faith and got ripped off (for example if you have a receipt showing specifically that you paid for Windows XP.) I can't find the details on their website so don't quote me on that.
