Setting cooldowns

I have a Class Change ability that switches out one unit for another, which also has the Class Change ability. Unfortunately, this also resets the cooldown on Class Change, since the new unit isn't technically the one that cast the spell. Is there a way to force the cooldown timer to start on a spell?

EDIT: Deleted part of the question, as it was badly worded.

Only way is to cast the spell, sorry man

Wouldnt show how long untill it is avaiable but you could do in triggers.

A unit casts an ability
Ability equal to (ur ability)
Turn off this trigger
Wait 30 seconds.
Turn on this trigger.

That's what I was planning on doing. I could even try to simulate the "ability hasn't cooled down yet" sound and text message, but I think it'd be confusing without the cooldown timer.

Right now I'm experimenting with a trigger that forces the newly created unit to cast a blank spell in the spellbook-based Class Change so that it starts the shared cooldown. I'll post if I find a solution.

You could try a trigger where whenever a unit is created, you set the cooldown of that spell to however long you want it to be. So whenever you swapped a unit out for another, the trigger would activate, manually giving the spell a cooldown.

Heres an idea! Sorry i had to rethink what i said above. Make a dummy ability that does nothing and once you switch to another unit it gives that unit the dummy ability untill the dooldown time is done and then remove the dummy ability and give the unit the real ability

That would be cool too, or you could create a small countdown timer or if you have a multiboard, add a small timer to that so it would be an exact number of how long till its cooled down.

(Only do that if class changing is a big part of the map).

Marksman - I would definitely go with that, the problem is that while I've found a way to reset cooldowns on abilities (as in, make them available) I haven't found an action that lets me set the cooldowns (make the unavailable for x amount of time). If you find such an action, my eternal gratitude would be yours.

Player 11 - That sounds like a good idea, I think I might just use that. I could make a disabled version of the icon and give the dummy ability that icon. Coupling that with a trigger that causes sound and a text message, I'd have my own cooldown timer.

Demonfaze - I already have a Leaderboard, and I think I'd rather keep it as simple as possible. Besides, while class changing is a big part of my map, being able to do so on the fly and in rapid succession is not. Thanks anyway.

Yeah, I think Player 11's way is the best.

If somehow his doesn't work, then you could use a boolean variable to determine when the cooldown was "in effect" and set the cooldown trigger-wise. (Using a wait 30 seconds in a trigger that will fire this often is not a very good idea).

I couldn't really understand your post player 11, so maybe you suggested this, but I'll throw it out there. You could trigger it that so whenever a unit that has your ability is created, you remove the class change ability from them. Then you give them an ability with the same name (different editor suffix-recharging) and make it just say that the class change spell is currenly recharging. Then after 30 seconds (or whatever), replace that ability with the class change ability.

Somewhat. He also will force the unit to "cast" that "dummy" ability so that the shaded cooldown thing will activate. It will let the player know how much longer it is until "30 seconds is up."

this is the fix I get from that yeah this is hard to control. disabling bots is pretty much necessary as ai and other bots would push really old threads to the top. reduce weight of view count. disable guest view tracking if you really want to push active threads to the top. a bit of tinkering for a few days with the weights and other settings should get you a decent trending widget box.
  • Ghan Ghan:
I changed the settings a bit.
  • Ghan Ghan:
Narrowed it to 7 days for the half-life and set views to 0 weight.

I dont think Trending would work for this forum it would be better to just have the last 5 posts from anywhere

Wow - the change in the stats are major. I kind of knew it was all bots but wow, to see the effect. Why the social media sites cant do something like this I have no idea.
  • Ghan Ghan:
Probably inflates their numbers so they look better to advertisers.
  • The Helper The Helper:
Yeah google does not filter those bots. I remember when Apex was doing Google ads I saw the same IPs in there as I was seeing here - google is totally tracking all those bots as traffic and most google traffic, at least ours, was all bots

Weekend went by too fast. Next weekend I am going to try to do a nature thing - buddy of mine lives by the Colorado river and has some kayaks and invited me to do some kayaking from a place he knows to get on the river.
  • Ghan Ghan:
    That sounds like an adventure.
