Setting up new races

I understand that people have been creating additional races using a dialog box at the start of the battle. I've been trying to replicate this, but to no avail.

Basically, I have a dialog box pop up that has five race buttons (Human, Orc, Undead, Night Elf, and Naga). When you click on one, it replaces your starting units accordingly.

However, whenever I try to replace the Town Hall with another Town Hall, the game locks up. Apparently, I can replace a Town Hall with a peasant quite easily, but it doesn't like the former.

Anyway, do you guys know of a tutorial or a template I can work off of? I know there's some code in the Free Trigger forum, but that crashes as well.

instead of replacing, why don't you simply create it? and also, turn on the melee trigger AFTER all units are ready. this might work

That's what I am thinking too. Delete the "Creating Starting Units" melee triggers. Before that, prompt the user for a race and dump units and buildings on the ground accordingly.

That works just fine, but the reason why I chose to use replace instead was because creating units puts them at a weird offset. For example, the Tree of Life is just a bit too far away from the goldmine for Entangling Gold Mine to function right without having to move the tree first.

That shouldn't happen... strange. Post the triggers?

You should be able to just create at center of a players starting point and put the starting point close to a gold mine. don't know why it wouldn't work.

Here's my wtg file. I hope it's not completely hopeless. Right now it technically only works for 1 player with the rest computers.

I used Divide and Conquer as the base map. I'm reluctant to change anything I want to keep as much of the map in its original form as possible. However, it still looks like the Tree of Life starts too far for the legal distance to make an Entangled Gold mine (while in the non-edited version of the map, the tree is placed closer to mine from the start).

Alright, that seems to fix the issue (although it seems like it would be more complicated if my made a Night Elf-clone race, though). I'm also a bit curious as to why there's a Demon race selection in the presets.

However, there seems to be a problem with the AI. If the AI is given a race that doesn't match up with the preselected race (I set it up so that the computer randomly selects a number between 0-4 (one for each race) instead of recieving a dialog box), then the AI does nothing but collect gold and wood. Any ideas?

Make the computer starting units whatever the default race is, theres race comparison conditions etc for that. You might be able to run the AI script for a different race to (Try AI triggers)

Yeah google does not filter those bots. I remember when Apex was doing Google ads I saw the same IPs in there as I was seeing here - google is totally tracking all those bots as traffic and most google traffic, at least ours, was all bots

Weekend went by too fast. Next weekend I am going to try to do a nature thing - buddy of mine lives by the Colorado river and has some kayaks and invited me to do some kayaking from a place he knows to get on the river.

    That sounds like an adventure.

I wonder how all these bots that sit on the lastest content page get passed anubis or maybe they did not but they are just registering on whos online
  • The Helper The Helper:
showing up on whos online not registration
  • Ghan Ghan:
The first gate is stopping all the bots that don't execute javascript.
  • Ghan Ghan:
That's the main thing with Anubis - no Javascript, no site. Typically you can still get the site to load without Javascript.
  • The Helper The Helper:
I remember the whole javascript thing, question - how many real people disable that?
  • The Helper The Helper:
Hell I guess I could go back on the stats to know that - we probably capture that and we know the before and after
  • Ghan Ghan:
Real users can't really disable Javascript anymore these days.
  • Ghan Ghan:
The internet is broken without it.
  • Ghan Ghan:
    Bot readable, not human usable.
