Setup and Install Programs

A lot of times a setup or install program will do something silly that I don't want it to do.
For example: It will check what OS I am running and decide it's not what it wants and quit. (I have win2k pro). Or it will only check the primary hard drive (C:/) for free space and ignore the several gigs free on D:/
How can I make them stop? Can I modify what these programs see and not screw up my comp as well? Say I launch something before running setup and then close it afterwards.

What software specifically has these problems? Most of the installers I've seen recently allow you to do custom installs where you can choose the drive letter and it will check space on the new drive before the install continues. As far as the OS problem, try running the program using the built-in Application Compatibility settings in Win2K. Under properties for the setup program, you can check compatibility and set what OS it thinks it's installing under.

I have seen these compatability settings under Win XP, but I don't believe I have seen them in my win2k computer. Is there some system option I have to enable (I have SP3 installed), or some setting somewhere, or some service that has to be running?

as for the not enough free space, it was this free online RPG called Hellfire or something like that ( I deleted the file afterwards ).
