sizing down a map

currently, im working on a map, which is obviously WAYY too huge! im at about the last skin/model i can delete, and would like any suggestions as to size down the overall map size..

in the import manager, its currently at about 7000kbs lol

ive heard that map protectors can sizen down the map, but im not about yet finished that i wanna protect it already, thanks in advance

One way to lighten up a map is remove preplaced objects. Try replacing trees with cliffs, since terrain seems less size-intensive than destructables. Another tactic is to condense triggers. As a general rule, try to use Array variables, rather than copied variables, and use arithmatic functions, rather than copy/pasted triggers.
Yeah, 7 mb is HUGE. From your post, I gather that you have a lot of custom models; it really reduces size to simply use ingame models, tinted and modified to what you want. Large maps with lots of custom models and preplaced objects tend to be big. The final court of appeal here is to take a look at the Map Optimizer; I've never used it myself, but from what I've heard it does a little bit more than just protect a map. Don't worry about map size until you're ready to protect, anyways, unless of course your hard drive is full

yeah the maxium ive heard to host is about 4mb so you gota lose at least 3.1 good mbs then it will be good on hosting. But might take long to dl but who cares

Do a search on the fourms for Map Optimizer. It's a download, yes, just like any protection program, but I'm sure someone on these fourms would have complained if it was infected or anything.

i looked at the map optimizer just now.. it looks great! but ill still try reducing some of the things in my import manager.. im thinking of using more skins rather than models.... sounds like a good idea to me

o and btw.. so far, after even more deleting... lol, its now down to about 5kbs

Yes and another thing that i should add is do you have custom sounds this is what takes up tons of space, if you can try to get smaller sounds(not as lenghty), cause like a 2-3 minute song can take up tremendus amounts of space. This is why i rather add some modles and skins rather than sounds cause they just take too much space..

Down to 5 kb, or 5 mb? If it's down to 5 kb, what did you do, delete all the triggers/models/preplaced objects/custom units/everything? Sounds more like 5 mb but that's still quite a good start, just 1 mb more to hosting size.

i just deleted this one song from my IMPORT manager that took up 3k kbs... but its still in my SOUND manager thing, and still plays so im not sure if i should delete it

i have an extra question.. since im really considering using skins instead of models... do u have to restart WE to see the skin work? im not talking using a model, but a skin with its pathing set to a certain unit.. IE in my case, im using it on grom hellscream

units\orc\Hellscream\HellscreamChaos.blp

would u consider that as the correct pathing? cuz in wc3 viewer, i see no pathing to the possessed grom skin .blp
