Hello members of thehelper.net wc3 community.
I have been a fan of wc3 mods for a long time and am currently a 4th year software engineer.
In my spare time for the last 4 months I have been porting the elements that i loved from sliding mazes into a game on android. I am looking to contact the sliding community wherever i can in order for them to gain involvement. Upon release this game will be made free and open source.

>Interested.

What are your current ideas on this app? I assume you want that smooth motion of sliding on ice, are you trying to make a direct replica of the sliding maps? Will it be single player or multiplayer?

Will it be touch-screen based? Will the touch direct the movement/facing angle or will there be a "joystick" in the corner?

Just a general feedback on idea's and thoughts would be appreciated.

Wrong forum; this is for wc3 projects (Models, maps for war3), not games for androids.

Wc3 projects are pretty much dead anyway, minimal activity here in months.
Regardless, I am interested in converting old classics into new-age apps for android devices.

As soon as you make any progress and need any assistance, drop me a PM. Good luck

So far I have implemented a lot of the obstacles from the original maps such as patrolling enemies, catapults, ground traps, jump/speed pads among others, I also liked the bosses from mazes like sliding loop as so at the end of each section you will find these, I have accommodated to the casual android players by simply having you fall over (tap to get back up) when hitting the edges to make it less punishing. The sliding on ice is pretty close to how it was but I had to lock the screen on the player so it feels different feedback/ideas in this area would be nice as having large scrolling maps on android was one of the goals of this project.

An important question is still that of multiplayer vs single player.

Also what software are you designing this in?
I'd gladly do some testing if you would like

I wrote my game engine from scratch in java as well as a level editor which run on a PC using javas canvas.. at the same time im working on the android version using opengl... theres still a lot of problems im working on to package a testing application but hopefully that will be soon... single vs multiplayer is something people seem most enthusiastic about but as i dont have servers, money or time... it probably wont happen in the near future.

So what it really is me trying to implement some kind of better site navigation not change the whole theme of the site
  • Varine Varine:
How can you tell the difference between real traffic and indexing or AI generation bots?
  • The Helper The Helper:
The bots will show up as users online in the forum software but they do not show up in my stats tracking. I am sure there are bots in the stats but the way alot of the bots treat the site do not show up on the stats
  • Varine Varine:
I want to build a filtration system for my 3d printer, and that shit is so much more complicated than I thought it would be
  • Varine Varine:
Apparently ABS emits styrene particulates which can be like .2 micrometers, which idk if the VOC detectors I have can even catch that
  • Varine Varine:
Anyway I need to get some of those sensors and two air pressure sensors installed before an after the filters, which I need to figure out how to calculate the necessary pressure for and I have yet to find anything that tells me how to actually do that, just the cfm ratings
  • Varine Varine:
And then I have to set up an arduino board to read those sensors, which I also don't know very much about but I have a whole bunch of crash course things for that
  • Varine Varine:
These sensors are also a lot more than I thought they would be. Like 5 to 10 each, idk why but I assumed they would be like 2 dollars
  • Varine Varine:
Another issue I'm learning is that a lot of the air quality sensors don't work at very high ambient temperatures. I'm planning on heating this enclosure to like 60C or so, and that's the upper limit of their functionality
  • Varine Varine:
Although I don't know if I need to actually actively heat it or just let the plate and hotend bring the ambient temp to whatever it will, but even then I need to figure out an exfiltration for hot air. I think I kind of know what to do but it's still fucking confusing
  • The Helper The Helper:
Maybe you could find some of that information from AC tech - like how they detect freon and such
  • Varine Varine:
That's mostly what I've been looking at
  • Varine Varine:
I don't think I'm dealing with quite the same pressures though, at the very least its a significantly smaller system. For the time being I'm just going to put together a quick scrubby box though and hope it works good enough to not make my house toxic
  • Varine Varine:
I mean I don't use this enough to pose any significant danger I don't think, but I would still rather not be throwing styrene all over the air

I bitch about Xenforo sometimes but it really is full featured you just have to really know what you are doing to get the most out of it.
  • The Helper The Helper:
It is just not easy to fix styles and customize but it definitely can be done
  • The Helper The Helper:
I do know this - xenforo dropped the ball by not keeping the vbulletin reputation comments as a feature. The loss of the Reputation comments data when we switched to Xenforo really was the death knell for the site when it came to all the users that left. I know I missed it so much and I got way less interested in the site when that feature was gone and I run the site.
