Ok i was wondering if anyone of you know a great side to get soundtracks for maps...

I am not looking for anything that violates the Copyright laws.

Just some nice cool Freeware Music/Sounds (if you can say that about music)

Well, you can get MIDIs, wich are music files that don't acually store the music, but when each event happens, and the computer then uses built-in sounds... They usually sound like crap, but they won't increase your file-size by much, as they are small. You can also import a mp3 (i think), I would reccomend Garbage, just remember to put lots of text saying "This music is from this band, at http://www.TehBand.com, from tis albem, ect" so that way you are advertising the song, instead of stealing it.

if you use a song in your game, you'll have room for one, at the most.
The song files are injected into your map, and most high quality MP3s are about 3 megabytes each. It's too bad Warcraft doesn't support OGG Vorbis format, songs are much smaller.

You could try re-encoding them to MP3Pro format, and sacrifice quality for smaller size. I've seen full songs get compressed to 300-500 kilobytes without sounding like you're hearing the song over the phone.

A good idea might be a short, looping song in MP3Pro.

Warcraft III doesn't support MIDIs? I thought i heard songs that REALLY sounded like MIDIs...

Nonsense.
The song is in the map and, unless the band actually agreed to that, it's piracy.

Nope, but there is something that makes war3 to beable to support midi's but its like 4mb to import it into your map which is a waste.

Yea well on the format front i an covered cuss i have adobe's wonderful sound editor :D

but still im not looking for actual "songs" just some cool music :D

Thansk for all the reply's so far

and that not what i want ^^

In canada we are allowed to download and share music music legally, unless your not selling it.

So i could legally put a song in my map and it would be legal.

Also, if there is a downloadable demo on thier website, then you can probably use it, as they are offering it for free anyway.

Yea well in Denmark where i live i can get my computer confiscated for importing music into a map and releasing it on b.net

That may well be so.
However, make sure that I never get your map... (or anyone else "outside").

"Songs" have copyrights, but most "Cool Music"s are free.

Why is music a waste? Background music is an important part of most real games, so why wouldn't it be important for a Warcraft map?

> Why is music a waste?

It takes up too much space.
And big maps are very difficult to pass on bnet.

Besides, not everyone has the same taste... even more so if you're hearing the same song for the 10th time.

He means it is a waste of space. The music would be like, 95% of your map size (assuming you optimize it)

Two reasons. One, Warcraft III already has lots of good music. Two, it uses up tons of space. Remember that battle.net has a 4 MB max, and most people won't bother downloading a 3 MB map (which is silly of them, but that's their problem).

Also, in the last template there was a seperation between sticky threads and regular threads in the forum
  • Ghan Ghan:
Not sure. It's probably part of a cron job.
  • The Helper The Helper:
Hey Ghan, whatever cron job its part of its not running its been the same for days. If it does not work can we remove it?
  • The Helper The Helper:
    LOL! A tweak job!
  • The Helper The Helper:
this is the fix I get from that yeah this is hard to control. disabling bots is pretty much necessary as ai and other bots would push really old threads to the top. reduce weight of view count. disable guest view tracking if you really want to push active threads to the top. a bit of tinkering for a few days with the weights and other settings should get you a decent trending widget box.
  • Ghan Ghan:
I changed the settings a bit.
  • Ghan Ghan:
Narrowed it to 7 days for the half-life and set views to 0 weight.
  • The Helper The Helper:
I dont think Trending would work for this forum it would be better to just have the last 5 posts from anywhere
  • Ghan Ghan:
Probably will have to give it some time to update.
  • Ghan Ghan:
I'm guessing it is not retroactive.
  • Ghan Ghan:
Next on the punch list: Update the server to Ubuntu 24.04.
  • The Helper The Helper:
Mad Lads is new I see it displays original post date
  • The Helper The Helper:
as long as it changes it is good - it is good now it updated and its new stuff
  • The Helper The Helper:
One thing I have noticed and I dont know if it is by design but like 1 out of 3 times I come to the site the Anubis screen just hangs open, if I refresh it will go away but sometimes it hangs
  • Ghan Ghan:
    I've seen that as well.
  • The Helper The Helper:
Wow - the change in the stats are major. I kind of knew it was all bots but wow, to see the effect. Why the social media sites cant do something like this I have no idea.
  • Ghan Ghan:
Probably inflates their numbers so they look better to advertisers.
  • The Helper The Helper:
Yeah google does not filter those bots. I remember when Apex was doing Google ads I saw the same IPs in there as I was seeing here - google is totally tracking all those bots as traffic and most google traffic, at least ours, was all bots
  • The Helper The Helper:
oh wow, i bet i can post x links now and do the webp pics now giggity
