Sony Vaio front ports

I'm new to this, I want to connect my vcr to the front ports of my Vaio, to download some home movies on vhs to burn them to dvd. I am using MovieShaker. Everytime I hook them up it says no connections. I just plugged them in the front. I even tried my camcorder and it does the same thing. Is there something special I need to do for the computer to recognize it? Thanks Elaine

Some more information about maybe the exact model number of the computer and what kind of connection you're trying to make would be useful.

if the camcorder is a digital one you shouldbe able to hook it up on the firewire port with no problem .

vcr can be tricky by using s-video or composite .
some more info on how you try to hook it up is helpfull

sounds like you are plugging your vcr into a tv out on the laptop. If you want to capture video from your vcr, you would need a capture card, I prefer a tv tuner card, i get a composite input and a coax. Then the software included with the tuner card would allow you to record the video.
