Sound Problems

I'm really getting sick of this...just when my system is nice and stable Windows has to snort some crack and screw with everything.

I found this morning after I had turned on my computer that there was no sound coming from my speakers. I checked the Device Manager and found very clearly that my Creative SoundBlaster Live! drivers were still there and intact. But, when I went into the Sound and Multimedia through Control Panel, and then to the Audio tab, instead of SoundBlaster being the preferred device it was Modem #0 Line Playback.

I tried completely removing my SoundBlaster drivers and reinstalling, with the installation going through 100%, but I still can't select SoundBlaster to be used for the sounds.

Do you have the device selected for use in the device manager? (I believe you're running Windows 2000?) If that doesn't work, remove the card from the device manager and reboot; have Windows detect the sound card and install the Creative drivers.

Well that's the thing, I can't select it from the Control Panel, unless I'm doing it a different way.

There's an option under the device's properties to enable or disable the use of the hardware.

Do you have a dialup modem installed with audio out and mic in plugs.

Nope, I don't. I found that even though I went through the installation when I try to use the Diagnostics that comes with AudioHQ it says SoundBlaster Live! is not installed.

Wow, don't ask me how...but now out of the blue I'm able to select SB Live! from the Sounds and Multimedia, so it's working again.
