sorry about the newbieness .. but i cant seem to find .wav files to import .. must i extract them from other files with a different program or am i just blind? .. thnx for the help

You can import any .wav file. If you'r trying to get files from Starcraft to import than it cant be done through StarEdit.

Here's some suggestions:

1 - Go here http://customc.net it's a GREAT StarEdit help site, with many files. and be sure to check out their sounds section as they have a growing archive of Sc sounds, and also a nice collection of non-sc sounds which would go good in maps.

2 - if you want all the sounds in Sc quickly and easily download these:
broodwar sounds
http://ftp.blizzard.com/pub/broodwar/SOUNDS/BWSoundUtility.zip

Starcraft sounds
http://ftp.blizzard.com/pub/StarCraft/SOUNDS/SCSoundUtility.zip

it extracts them all to a bunch of categorized folders.. very neat and tidy... takes a lot of space though, about 70-80 megabytes.
